Dementia

My mom was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia in October 2015. Her disease has progressed a lot  in the last 4 months. I found out recently that one of her sisters also had dementia.
My question, am I at a higher risk to get this disease? If so is there a time when symptoms would begin to show in me?

i can also tell you that lewy , makes them get real stiff, my mom all of a sudden just stopped walking she could not get her legs to go straight, or walk, they get where you can't bend them and its hard to put them in chairs etc. mom went into the bed the last 11 months of her life because of lewy , and making her stiff. hang in there , hope ya have plenty to help you with mom, remember to get your rest and take care of yourself, i did not and it took my health  down , until i started taking time off and taking care of myself, we keep mom at home it was not easy. GOD Bless your mother and you for caring enough to ask and being there for her . Heart

hi so sorry your mom has this, as my mom had this to and its not a good thing to watch them go down,  i will tell you as she gets worse go into her world , she will no longer live in yours and remember that no matter what she says she's not herself, she can not help how she acts or what she says but she's still your mom, love her and hold her hand let her know your there , its a very scary thing for her, she needs that security.    well as far as you i can say i have done some studying on this and i don't like all the answers i get.   Yes you have a much Greater chance of getting it if ___ your mom did not get it from a stroke, or a accident of the head.    does anyone elsa have it in the family line/,   its never a for sure thing it could skip you, and threes no way to say when and if at what age it could hit you.  how old is your mom, mine was 64 when they said she had it, she passed at 72,

The answer to your question is very controversial. There appears to be a genetic susceptability to Lewy body dementia, but the connection is not clear. In a nutshell, no researcher is very clear on the exact cause of this variety of dementia, which may co-exist with other varieties. I wouldn't worry too much,
