Help with Diagnosis

For the past 15 months I have been taking my husband to neurologists for symptoms that began as pain in his left arm.  Initially the neurologist felt that is was a neuropathy, he had a brain MRI-normal results, Cervical Spine MRI-normal results, MRA-normal results, Several blood tests for lyme, rheumatism, CPK, everything you could think of.  As time has gone on the doctors have noticed substantial muscle wasting in his arms and one leg.  The strange this is the pain started in his left arm it has now left his left arm and is in his right.  However it has left his arms without muscle and his movement is very restricted.  He has fasiculations in his arms, legs, face and buttocks.
Our original neuro send us onto another neuro for an opinion, it has been 14 months that we had been seeing her.
THe second neuro we saw is a professor of neurology and specializes in Diagnosis, he is perplexed himself, the have both mentioned ALS however they said the pain throws a wrench into the diagnosis since pain is not usually a symptom of ALS.  Our visit last week left him scratching his head, my husband has lost 27lbs, he can see the muscle loss and after examination can notice the weakness progressing in arms and left leg.  He has now referred us to another neuro for his opinion.  If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to here about these issues.  I am assuming that your husband had an EMG?  What were the results...normal or abnormal?   Is the pain a cramping or a soreness or a shooting pain?

Hey, thanks for the reply. He has had EMGS there are some abnormalities, they do show some fibs, and fasciculations, and mis firing is what I have been told.  But there is some issue with the nerve conduction it is not a typical of what they see with ALS.
His pain is both he does get severe muscle cramping almost like muscle knots, but he also has a burning, stabbing pain in his arm.

Thank you for your interest
