me bums bumming me

I have had this embarrassing problem just north of my anus, not the scrotum way. Its like I have a pusy sore there that never heals fully. Basically if I am constantly washing my but crack it is under control more or less. It itches something awful at times and if it itches at night some times I end up scratching it in my sleep and I end up with an oily substance on my fingers. Just a horrible smell and several hand washings later its still there. I have tried strict washing regimes, rubbing alcohol whipes, clean and dry and antibiotic creams but it just seems to control it, not actually solve it.

Similar problem on and off since anal cancer treatment.  Tried the usual stuff, antibiotic cream, hydrocortisone cream, heavy calamine type cream, corn starch to keep area dry..whew!

Finally, asked pharmacist for help: he recommended a fungal cream, and I can't say for sure  why, but haven't had an episode since.  I don't think what we have is actually a fungus, but whatever works!  Forget name of stuff but can be bought over the counter.

Sitz (sp?) baths were frequent recommendations when I was healing from cancer.  Had thought of trying, but didn't as the cream worked.

Having given you this advice, would recommend you check in with a doc.  After all, it is a daily discomfort (read pain) : finding a solution will free your mind of anxiety and the pain of whatever it is.
