Loose Skin on Neck - Not there yesterday

I have a dachsund/beagle mix about 18lbs. I noticed the skin on her neck is loose today. It was not like that yesterday or this morning. What could this be? Doesn't feel like there's fluid or anything inside it's just hanging loose like aged skin. She is only 2-3 years old. What do I do?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello, I am sorry to hear this and glad to help. As long as your dog is eating, drinking and otherwise acting healthy, this does not sound like a major cause for alarm.

Dehydration may be the problem!! It has been extremely hot in California this week and canine fluid loss occurs quickly. If you pinch the loose skin and hold it together for 5 seconds, then release it, it should immediately or within 1-3 seconds return to normal. If it doesn't this is a sign of dehydration easily remedied with fluids given by mouth or under the skin at your vets.

It is always wise to check with your vet in any case where you have questions about your dogs health.

Best Wishes

Has she been eating and drinking regularly?  Does she act normal, otherwise?
