head trauma

A friends 6 week old kitten jumped off her shoulder and landed on the floor on the right side of it's body, within a couple of minutes the cats started showing signs that something wasn't right.as time passed the kitten is slowly getting worse. She is breathing normaly and she is purring. However her eyes stay open, she is not blinking, and she has no head control. Her pupils do not change, and most of the time she cant stand. But that changes from minute to minute. She seems to respond to voices. There was no visible bleeding, or swelling to any part of the body or head. she cant afford for emergency services for the kitten, any information you can offer would be helpful.

Thank you very much! However as It turns out the kitty Is fine. The fall must have just knocked her silly? The next morning after being put In a dark room with no stimulation the baby was back to her normal rambunctious self. She is eating and going in the litter box and playing with the 9 month old GREAT DANE! She is showing no signs of any type of trauma or after affects! I guess they really do have 9 lives!

I'd still get your kitten to your vet as soon as possible. The good thing about kittens is that they can respond pretty well to therapy and treatment, and often times with nursing care will return to "normal" function after a while. I rescued my own kitten from severe head trauma (the previous owners had abused him, and he was thrown against a well) - he had severe neurologic deficits, and within 24 hours was much improved with therapy (a few doses of a medication to decrease brain swelling). Within a week, he was almost completely normal. Best of luck!

Unfortunately there is nothing that you can do at home for this kitten, she may have a life threatening brain injury or hemorrhage, and should be taken to the emergency clinic ASAP. Perhaps she can qualify for Care Credit, or borrow the funds to care for her pet from friends and relatives.
