Afraid of the dark?

I've been completely afraid of the dark for as long as I can remeber, like completely mortified. I can't be in dark rooms or hallways without freaking out. Like a lamp would start to look like a threatening monster, and it  would start to feel like the darkness is closing on me. The odd thing is I'm fine with night time and actually enjoy night walks and I feel fine If I have someone with me. I really want to get over this it's affecting my sleeping.

You have an interesting problem that is based on genetics. You are not abnormal in any way. This not a "psychiatric problem" that requires therapy.  It turns out that light triggers many biological responses that are necessary for the survival of the organism. I find it more comfortable to sleep with lights on in the room, when everyone else complains and wants "lights off". Just remember: "Mother nature never does something for nothing".

You can do something simple like having nightlights in various places throughout the house. It'll give you a small amount of light and possible ease fears
