Can anxiety really be this bad?

This might be long, but it has gotten so bad. About two years ago I started to feel weird, foggy mind, a little dizzy, and short of breath. Buy since then it had only gotten worse. Anxiety attacks, and just general anxiety almost all the time. It makes it difficult for me to work and for me to have a social life. The only thing I'm anxious about is my health. I have chest tightness and chest heaviness almost always, heart palpitations, shortness of breath,I sometimes feel like I'm just going to fall over and faint, I feel twitchy, like my perceptions off, and whenever I'm out on public I feel like I'm on the edge of having an attack. This is really ruining my life and I can't believe that this could just be anxiety. Help?!

In addition to paxiled's comments below that it could just be anxiety, I will add that people with anxiety tend to over-analyze everything happening in their body, because they are always looking for clues that something is wrong. So a first successful step is to try to defocus on your body because if you can do that, the symptoms will often go away. Not so easy and some people are plagued with strong anxiety that doesn't give them a break, but everyone is different so try it.
If I focus on my breathing now I can easily feel some of the worrisome symptoms you listed, but I know there is nothing wrong with my body since I exercise vigorously without strain, so they go away when I stop thinking about them

It could just be anxiety.  It could be something else combined with anxiety.  It could be something else altogether.  Anxiety doesn't cause everything that bothers us, but it can cause a lot of things and certainly cause us to focus more on things we might have ignored before.  Ever seen a therapist?  Ever tried meditation?
