Does this sound like anxiety?

38, Female......For the last 3 months, I have had constant tingling in my face plus daily numbness in other extremities.  It moves around.  One day might be the left foot and hand.  The next, it might just be my right hand.  Yesterday, it was my face, left hand and left ear.  Today, I woke up to a numb right ear.  I get headaches almost everyday as well.

In October, I had had an MRI, MRA, cat scans, EEG, EMG, EKG, etc.  Everything was normal.  The numbness continued.  I went for my routine physical a few weeks ago.  Labs were normal except for the thyroid.  My meds have recently been changed to help with that. I have mild asthma, GERD and hypothyroidism after a thyroidectomy 6 years ago.  My doctor gave me an anxiety questionnaire and said it did not show that I was anxious.

Well, last week, the numbness continued, and my blood pressure suddenly went way up when I woke up.  I could feel my heart beating in my head.  My normal is 110/70.  At points throughout Christmas, it was 170/106.  I went to the ER again.  More tests.  More normal results except the bp.  I have a terrible cardiac family history, so he gave me a very low dose bp  med to take only when it is over 140 on the top.  Two out of three days, it has been.

On the way to the ER. I started panicking.  I couldn't breathe.  I was so scared.  My husband thinks it is all worry.  Stress and worry. I do worry a lot.  But, it is not debilitating.  It is just annoying.  I go to work. I volunteer.  I teach at church.  The numbness is always there.  I just try to ignore it.  With Christmas and the downtime, it has been harder to ignore, though.

Thanks for any input.

This sounds more like a possible nerve issue than anxiety however mental disorders have been known to manifest physically so dont necessarily rule it out

It could be if panic is just starting to rear its head, but I urge you to keep track of symptoms and consult with a doctor who can look past an anxiety diagnosis, its just to easy. Anxiety does cause tingling and a dull headache, and numerous other symptoms including spikes in BP during a Panic Attack but with your family history, the extreme spiking blood pressure, and sudden set of symptoms I would monitor it closely.

Your last sentence does sound like a panic attack, but this is also a natural response from what I imagine is allot of worry.

We are here for you if you need us, let us know how things work out and try to stay calm, it could just be stress from the holidays.
