EMDR is it any good

Can anyone advise me if EMDR is any good. I have been diagnosed with depression and have been advised by my GP that the time is now right for me to look at Cognitive Behavioural Therapy [CBT] as a way forward with my treatment. The NHS waiting lists in the UK are very long in respect of this treatment, and I have a possibility of having combined EMDR and CBT treatments being provided by my employer.  Can anyone tell me if it works?????

It's used mainly for PTSD, but it's worth a try.  Anything's worth a try!

What types of problems does EMDR help?  Can it help health anxiety and/or body dismorphic syndrome?

Thanks.

hi. funnily enough have just this minute joined this forum re: EMDR. Have been having treatment for the last few months and it's the only thing that has worked. I would recommend it to anyone suffering from derealization/depersonalization/panic attacks/anxiety etc. Am not on meds as this can affect treatment. It's been fantastic. a literal life saver. Go for it, especially if being provided by your employer. Have been paying £65 for weekly 1hr sessions. Good luck.

I didn't get much out of EMDR, then again I was taking meds at the same time so maybe I was already desensitized to the event that we were trying to desensitize me to with EMDR.

The EMDR itself doesn't take many sessions to complete, so you are no worse off for trying it, especially if you are having it done at a CBT appointment you would be going to anyway.

Besides, I'd wager that all of us are pretty much willing to try ANYTHING at this point.
