Fullness and Ringing in Ears

Does anyone else experience sudden ringing in ears, muffled hearing and a feeling of fullness or pressure in their ears when they are anxious? It drives me crazy, I am working and out of nowhere, my hearing goes muffled and I get a hot flash. Now that I know that is normally how my attacks happen, I am able to stop them before they really start, but man it is frustrating! An absolutely horrible feeling! Could this be a side effect from my meds as well? (Lexapro & Lorazapam)

Thanks! Kristine

Yes, I was getting ringing in my ears every afternoon . It would start up at the same time.In the morning it would be gone and then start up again the next day. Now it has finally stopped but when I had the bad anxiety I would get a feeling of plugged up stuffy ears.

i have that about 50 times a day, the exact way you are explaining it. have had it for years now. it still freaks me out when it happens though.cause me to panic a lots of times. the doctor said i had a build up of wax in that ear. but sometimes it's both ears and sometimes it's my right ear other times it's my left ear. sometimes i think it is anxiety.

I sometimes will get a ringing ear out of nowhere... my right ear especially. I'm not on meds. I think it's either from exposure from loud noises along my life... I was in a rock band for about 6 years. Or it could be due to an imbalance?

Also, I've had the feeling of muffledness in my right ear too... like almost if someone was standing next to me... and they were blocking my hearing in that ear? Then I'll turn around and no one will be there.. that has caused me to go into panic before.

Hi .    I have a weird sensation in 1 ear only. It is a like a thumping sound. And sometimes it will be pretty bad certain sounds I can actually feel in my ear.

I have that same feeling many times. The changes in sounds and like everything slows down really starts me into an attack. Instead of hot flashes I start to get sweaty palms but pretty much the same symptoms I feel.
It is VERY frustrating and the only thing I can do is try to ride it out until I feel 'normal' again.

I never got any problems with my ears, so I'm not going to be much help to you on that one. Maybe other folks here have that same symptom. What I can say is that it's possible it is a side effect of your medication, for which your doctor or a pharmacist could answer for you. If that isn't a possibility, I would suggest seeing an Ear/Nose&Throat doc for a check up. You could be having some sinus problem or an inner ear infection or something as simple as excess wax in your ears.
As you well know, anxiety can manifest itself in some really weird ways, but I think I'd have it checked out just to be on the safe side.
Keep us posted, OK?
