It worked for me. I was suffering from PTSD and anxiety from a front line job in emergency services in a major city. Other Paramedics and Police I know have used it and it works if you follow the instructions. You need to want to help yourself before anything can work. I liked it because it's not about constantly going over the events of the past, they can't be changed. It's about retraining your amygdala (in your brain) to not set off adrenalin from the memory of a traumatic event but to reset for each new event. Medically the practice is very sound and neuroplasticity which Linden method is, is used in other parts of medicine with great success for Parkinson's and autism patients. Going to psych doctors means you rehash and reinforce those old wounds and Linden stops that. It's just about saying OK this event happened but it doesn't need to rule your life. I am more than that one or two events. I recommend it very highly.

Yes, I have tried it and it worked for me. My improvement was gradual however and it took several years (as opposed to weeks, months).

The crux of the method is re-training your neural pathways, which I think is the right approach for all forms of anxiety, as Linden claims. The problem however is that re-training the neural pathways will be different in every case, so it's very hard to give some general advice on how to heal when everyone's anxious habits look a bit different. But essentially, once you figure out how you've re-inforced those habits through behaviors and **thoughts**  (so both externally and internally), you can start a slow path to healing.

Ive read The Linden Method and can confirm it def is a money making scam on his part and in no way worth paying out any money for. I work for the NHS in mental health services and have never heard of its use with patients. It is basic ideas, relaxation methods etc that can be obtained for free online. I think it is disgusting that Mr Linden and his counterparts use the misery of other peoples anxiety to line their own pockets. Please steer clear!

I am thinking of bringing my son he is 28 and has been tormented for years with anxiety.  My heart is broken I want to try something different as we have had enough of professionals.  He is such a beautiful young man and I dont want to lose him, he says he has no quality of life.  It is 3500 euro for four day residential.  I just dont know if it will be worth it.  I would love to hear if anyone did the four day residential

I tried it and it worked at a low level but then when I became much worse I was criticised by the staff. In the end I had to stop as the method was creating more anxiety. After 20 years of suffering I am now free from anxiety.  In the past I sang the praises of the Linden Method for curing anxiety....now I want to say to sufferers that there is no one size fits all. Each person is unique and the right combination of treatments is unique too. The most important component in the sufferers recovery is how much they believe they can be free from excessive anxiety. Self-love, compassion and re-training the mind to think in positive patterns rather than negative are key to recognise ones own ability and potential. In other words realising and recognising that you have an amazing ability to cope with the bad aswell as the good frees you up to go out there and be who you want to be,the real you. Charles Linden needs to stop dissing every other therapy and allow people to find their own way!!!

Please give the linden method a try. It really saved my life a few years ago. I'm not a doctor or anything but I suffered from anxiety and if this means anything to you then my advice is to give it a try.
I wish you and your family all the best.

I have not tried the method myself, and I have read some of the answers posted. First I would like to say that everybody is different and you simply can't judge it by other people's experience. Secondly I have a son that suffers acute anxiety that destroys his life at the young age of 17. In my opinion a person who suffered anxiety himself is more more qualified in this field than any doctor, phycologist or physchiatrist. . Medication is not the answer to this debilitating disorder, and for some people dvd''s and online therapy does not work and maybe they should consider his retreat for more intense, human contact therapy.

I've never tried the Linden method but I have noticed the comment that drugs will never work. I have suffered a lot from anxiety disorder in the past and  take antidepressants. The anitidepressants have given me my life back. There often is a medical reason for anxiety and in my case it had to do with low serotonin levels whicih the anitdepressant meds helps to correct. If I stopped taking the meds I would be sick again, no question, but with them I am free of crippling anxiety.

Your mind CAN be released from your condition. You will be able to expand your mental and physical boundaries, move back into the ‘real’ world. 2. You CAN stop looking for answers in textbooks and on the Internet. You will no longer feel compelled to find answers but instead to tell people what you have learnt. 3. You CAN try new activities without fear. Before you felt isolated and scared, now you will want to go out and discover new, amazing things to do and see. 4. Your emotional roller coaster IS over. This horrifying ride has ended, to be replaced by enjoyment, happiness and peace. 5. The sensations, aches and pains CAN be gone forever. Because the symptoms are no longer apparent or important you can stop focusing on them and move forward. 6. You can stop living in your own scary and isolated world. The compulsions, fear, sadness, frustration and anger that you once had is gone, replaced by positivity and an inner strength that you never knew or have forgotten that, you had. You are stronger, fitter and more mentally capable than before. You have trained your mind to be powerful enough to produce dramatic sensations, now let us put that newfound strength to good use. 7. You can have better and more stable relationships. Whether at work or at home, your interaction with others is more restrained and enjoyable. You don’t upset them, they don’t upset you. What a relief! 8. You can stop negativity, being fed up or depressed. You will find peace where there was once trauma and heartache. 9. You can do all of this with very little effort. Just follow the rules and DO what you are asked to the best of your ability.

There are only two things Mr Linden wants you to do.
1. Stop researching and talking about your condition.(This includes quitting your therapist)
2. Start making your life into a busy ,structured, scheduled, focused agenda. (Focus all of your attention on something else and the anxiety will go away).
And that's it!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS did NOT work FOR me! I struggle with ADHD as it is. A regiment of a scheduled rigorous routine that he insists on in order for his simple two step theory to work is for non ADHD people.
Contrary to his insistence that you stop researching your condition, researching on the internet helped me a lot. I learned a lot about PTSD and OCD and the amygdala and serotonan and dopamine from online communities.
I did not listen to Mr Linden , I kept researching until I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow . THAT'S RIGHT!!!!! The mystery does get solved about why your brain freaking out! Let me help you take your first step toward recovering from this biological chemical imbalance effecting your brain... Trust me , start googleing "Thyroid and Anxiety". "Thyroid and Depression" and "Thyroid Serotonin and Dopamine". Mr Linden might mean well and he did get my money, but he's a business man selling a simple step 1 and step 2 formula that will not make permanent changes for everyone. Meditation (TM or other) , Ti Chi , Yoga , quitting caffeine, and getting your thyroid checked and treated will make healing permanent.  Start googleing those phrases now! I wish you all PEACE , sweet beautiful PEACE.

I came here to see if I could find some info on this, and some of these posts have been helpful, so thank you, people :)

But, thinking about it logically, if I magically found the answer to anxiety, would I really charge £100 a time to help people who are desperate? Probably not. A nominal fee, maybe, but £100???

The website says he has helped 160,000 people, and if they all paid him £100, then I can see why his anxiety has gone. I think my anxiety would be a little less if I had made £16,000,000 over the course of a few years.

I agree. The better way if you have your own therapist, but book and video can teach you a lot of good things for fighting with panic attack. The problem is if you really understand what is all about and do you have some foreknowledge. So it's not problem in Linden method  the problem  is how will you accept this knowledge and how will you apply it in your living.

Hi Amarcus,

I tried this method a few years back and it didnt really work for me, but I think that was mainly due to me not doing it properly. I was too busy at work and being quite impatient, not seeing improvement after 2 or so weeks I slowly lapsed back into my old behaviour and ignored it. I'm going to try it again though. Like you mentioned, I also have social anxiety and was confused about how you can distract yourself when in a social situation, specially after sooo long when it is really ingrained and you forget what it was like not to be nervous in a social situation (without being drunk ;)

How can all the people who have done it successfully be wrong though? Surely there are people out there who have a similar type of anxiety and have been successful with the method. And what are your other options? Keep living with anxiety? Be sceptical/negative about every treatment out there? At the end of the day, I think if you give it a good go (for several months) with a positive mindset it may stand a chance of helping you. If it fails at least you can say you tried.

Good luck

I wonder how Linden Method worked for people here, some of whom claim their problem was beyond hope. From what I gathered from the book, it has the nine Pillars, which is the base and the actual method. Aside from that, there are Visualization recordings, a video of Tai chi exercises and other fillers on diets and lifestyle changes, that are the staple of numerous internet health sites. There are innumerable visualization tools available online as well and Tai chi exercises were always there so those are not exactly revolutionary methods exclusive to this program. That leaves us with the 9 Pillars. It would be really helpful if someone could explain to me how could those 9 vague instructions cure people of life-long issues of anxieties and panic disorders. Or did I really miss out something?

Then it is more like positive thinking. Doesn't work either.

In theory, CBT seemed more realistic. Practically, well, it is a different issue altogether. Though the basic anxiety did reduce quite a bit, the social anxiety is very stubbornly ingrained into my psyche. The extreme self-consciousness makes it difficult for any improvement. This has been for years and finally my therapist recommended me for meds after previously maintaining that my anxiety is too mild and meds are not required. I've been on meds for a month and half but no improvement. So I think there is not much progress in this field in all these years.

Its too simple to be effective. The basis of this method are nine points or Pillars as they are called. Those are so vague as Stop visiting Doctors, Distract your mind when you feel anxious etc. Basically it is written by a person who previously suffered from Anxiety and Panic attacks. But the program, he insists, is for all types of anxieties. Problem is that for a person like me who suffers from Social Anxiety, distracting my attention when I feel anxiety speaking to a person or interacting in a group does not work because I am required to stay in the moment if I have to interact satisfactorily.
