Have anyone else had success with magnesium, omega 3 and self hypnosis?

Before Christmas me and my bf broke up. I had been working and it was in the middle of my exams. I hadn't slept for several days and I just broke down to the floor. I started trembling, everything was hurting and it all went black. The next 14 days were a haze, apathic haze. And then it came and went, the haze (the meaningless, empty feeling) and when it liftet the nerves and anxiety took a hold of me. I was afraid of everything and the pain in my body was also severe. I started using hypnotherapy and it clearly helped me get rid of the depression, the anxiety/nerves on the other hand stuck like glue. Both my therapist and doctor said I should consider meds. But before Easter I had a moment of "peace". My body was still and I felt a calm I hadn't felt in months. I even managed a girl trip out of the country during the hollidays. In the beginning of March I started taking Magnesium and omega-3. I allso use EFT and self hypnosis evey day. All though I'm still "ckecking in" and the constant worry about my health is there, it's less intense. It will probably take time, and a lot of hard work, but I'm starting to see a light in the end of the tunnel. I'm not having the intense attacks (which used to last all day if the depression hadnæt settled), I'm calmer, less stressed out. Yes, I still have som sensations like the thoughts, lump in my throath left, but I've almost stoped trembling and my chest, back and stomach feels better. Is there anyone else who has experience with this? I still use hyonisis and EFT as I feel it helps me relax and change the way I'm thinking. Now, death and meds aren't the options anymore, but the future is.

Emotional freedom technique :)
It's sounds a bit sketchy, and I was really skeptical at first but the first time I tried it, it got rid of the worst feelings I was having. I was at a girlfriends place the first time it all went black. She has a neighbour who is a qualified EFT-practisioner. This girl came in and just started tapping on several places of my body. The hurt I was feeling for the loss of my relationship went away, and I actually managed to get myself home alone that night (I should probably have been admitted).

What it basically does is using the meridians(same as in accupuncture) and tapping on them while you are "feeling" on the memories and thoughts that bothers you the most. For me it hasn't been a miracle cure, but I've managed to stop anxiety attacks with it. I use it every day, 5 min here, 5 min there, to ***** the negative thoughts I have. Its purpose is to remove the feelings you have towards certain thoughts, to remove the feeling you also remove the negative thoughts importance. Does this make any sense?

Anyways, it does give me some emotional relief and is a "tool" in my box.
It's easy to learn yourself and therefor doesn't cost any. It's also something that is possible to do everywhere. If there is any traumatic experiences that come to the surfase at times, I would recommed going to a professional EFT-trainer.

What is EFT? I've heard of CBT but not EFT.

Thanks for that. As my body is getting calmer, I'm now working on my mind and the thoughts. Obviously loss of control and fear is my main issues now, and also learning to trust myself again and not end up just feeling sorry for myself. It goes both ways these days, which is a huuuge improvement from the days were my missery was my only company. And, since it has gotten better, I think it's the way to go, and accept that I also will have days were I'm not feeling better. My GAD has been a hell, and I needed to change the way I'm feeling. Everyone who knows when things are at it worst therapy and breathing tecniques only can do so much. That's when I turned to EFT and hypnosis. I don't feel the "big chance" with EFT, but sometimes it clears my head a bit and I feel a bit better. The hypnotherapy was something I was recommended, and my therapist is also a hypnotherapist. So we practise hypnosis along with cognitive methods. I feel good about that also, but it's the alternative treatments that has helped me improve so much. I have also downloaded some free mp3 online, if anyone needs any tips.

Thanks again Nikodirecta. Good to see that you use your background for something good. And also, for bringing hope to the table. :)

Thanks for all the wonderful comments. :) I know that sometimes things feel meaningless and it's difficult to see the future as a good thing, but there is hope. Never stop fighting and you'll find a way that will work for you. And keep it going, don't give up. I'm so glad that I'm not alone in finding a "cure". But my best advice is to not give up. Staying in bed or indoors will only make things worse (yeah, I know, it's safer there). But I made myself go out every day and I'm starting to get my life back now. And, the "bad" days still comes in between, but they are less intense and frequent, and would probably be a good day a few months ago.

I would love to hear more about what works for you. Do any of you have experience with hypnotherapy? I think it's amazing how it helps, but I've only used it 1.1/2 months and will probably keep using it for the rest of my life. I used to use it every night and morning, now I only use it at night, before I go to bed.

Keep on fighting and I'll keep you posted on my development. :)

Glad to hear you are beginning to come out of anxiety's grip. i too believe in a natural approach to anxiety. A few weeks ago, I added niacin to my supplement routine and also went with magneseium.

In about a week, I began to feel a difference in my anxiety and panic. i also began therapy and found that to be a relief.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you :)
I have had a really crappy, anxiety filled, feeling sorry for myself kinda day.
It's so nice to see this post after a bad day, to know there is hope and life doesn't have to be one big ball of fear!
Well done :)

Thanks a lot :)
I've posted the thread in AT as well. And I really agree with you, I think persistence is the answer and accepting that getting well is a process not a magic fix that can be done in one day. I do have times now where I'm looking forward to things, traveling, work etc. and it's a blessing in the hard months that have passed. I have been on the thoughts of using meds, but I've also heard from people when it didn't work and they only got worse. I'm so glad that you had a good experience with it and the combination with therapy is a good mix. I personally don't condem meds, and I'm glad that it helps a lot of people. I just wanted to try other options before I would try it :) Thanks for the support, it's good to have someone who understands it. Even though I wouldn't wish this upon anyone.

I'm so happy you found something that seems to be working for you!  That's great!  While, I personally am a big supporter of medications and therapy for treatment of anxiety and depression (due to personal experience, and witnessing so many others have success), I always say that there is something for everyone.  There are so many approaches to treating anxiety, the trick is to keep working it, whatever one's choice may be.

I also urge you to stick with therapy, along with the supplements you are taking.  Therapy is such an invaluable tool!  There are a lot of people who come here, asking for non medication ways to treat anxiety, you really may be able to offer them some hope.

If you could, copy and paste this thread into the "Alternative Therapies" community.  It's a great topic for that forum too!

Thanks so much for sharing, and best of luck for continued success!
