I'm in a program right now and I get the idea that the head honcho psychiatrist does not believe in antidepressants. She believes that they all stopped working. I can't imagine what else she would put me on... I'm on a small dose of lithium right now but that would not suffice door would my Seroquel 100 mg at night I don't know what that woman's problem is....

First of all, you should check with your psychiatrist as to what your diagnosis is according to her.  Seroquel is just as hard to stop taking as any other drug, and it probably has worse side effects.  It's usually used for a person like you for its unwanted side effect of making you very sedated.  It is one of the most falsely marketed drugs of all time, the manufacturer was sued to death and the FDA and every other regulatory agency around the world fined the manufacturer heavily and prohibited the false marketing for thing for which is was not approved or studied, including for anxiety.  It is an antipsychotic, so if you're not psychotic and especially if this is the only med you've ever tried, it has worse side effects than antidepressants usually.  Same is true for lithium, it's also an antipsychotic, not an anti-anxiety med.  Start-up anxiety is usually due to one of two things:  the fact you're an anxious person and are afraid of taking medication, meaning it's caused by you, not the drug, and the fact that these drugs can be very stimulating for some people.  Some antidepressants are intentionally stimulating, notably wellbutrin and the snri category which includes Effexor.  Some docs will even use speed to treat depression.  If anxiety is your problem, though, this can cause increased anxiety.  So again, if you haven't been diagnosed with a psychosis such as true bipolar or schizoprenia but have been diagnosed with just anxiety, I'd see a different psychiatrist and get a second opinion before you decide whether you want to stay with your current program.  As for withdrawal, all of these meds can cause withdrawal.  How bad it is and how long it lasts is dependent on the individual and how long you've taken it and how well it worked.  Again, seroquel can also cause withdrawal.  It's really sad to say this, but you have to do your own homework whenever you see doctors of any kind -- they are no better at what they do than anyone else at what they do, some are great, some aren't.  Your current doc may have discovered something and may have a great program, but I'd get a double check on that.  I've been an anxiety sufferer for many decades and have seen several psychiatrists due to the vagaries of health insurance, but I've never ever been prescribed or even had discussed Seroquel or lithium for that problem.  Look into it, and then, if you still like this doc, give it a try.  Good luck.
I myself was surprised to get Seroquel and lithium prescribed at the mental hospital. And was told that these would help me with my anxiety this is a new wave way of prescribing I'm noticing from other people as well. I'm noticing that psychiatrist now or prescribing mood stabilizers and antipsychotics two people for anxiety.. unrelenting day after day that scares the hell out of me. That's why I'm hoping to do it little by little with a compound thing Pharmacy but we'll see what they can do.

That was a really good post thank you very much. My anxiety last time it came it wouldn't go away I mean day after day with no break other than if I put some kind of a pill like Seroquel at night. And I didn't have any benzos. I can understand and tolerate anxiety and use coping skills if I knew how long it would last. Not knowing how long it will last is torture. I mean I have an idea of how long withdrawal from an antidepressant anxiety last and how long startup anxiety from an antidepressant last about 7 to 10 days but I have no idea how long my raw untreated with an antidepressant would last . Would last. And that's not fair and it's hard

Only thing I'd caution about is the psychiatrist part.  That depends on how much the anxiety is degrading your life and how long the problem has been going on and whether or not you know what started the whole mess.  Although a few still do therapy, it is expensive to get it from them, so the only reason to see one is if like me you've had to resort to medication.  For those for whom it might work, therapy with a psychologist who specializes in anxiety treatment is a safer place to start, as there are no meds without some risk.  For most, it's not the first step, though it might prove to be necessary and when the problem is severe it probably is necessary.

If your not sure exactly what is causing your anxiety then Therapist will do wonders.  Or just to help work through it and how to help get a handle on it.  Alot of people dont want to admit their anxiety and having someone to talk to about it is very helpful.
