I know its a dumb question but ....

I'm on 50mg of zoloft for anxiety and depression. Been doing pretty good. The holidays have me a tiny bit down just cuz some things with my family and its the first year that I'm not with my ex who I've spent the past 4 yrs with. But I'm alright. Anyway, my question is, being that I'm on zoloft, is it ok to "drink"? I've gotten mixed answers. I used to drink on occasion but when I did I'd get anywhere from a little buzzed to completely drunk off my butt. My sister and I usually drink around this time of year because the holidays of course, her bday and new years. I havent drank since this time last year. Its never been a habit. So that, im not worried about but Is it ok to have a some fun or should I just not?

It's not a dumb question!  There's nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy fun times.

I think this question is best answered by your prescribing physician.  I had the same question for my psychiatrist, and she gave me an answer based on my situation and medication.  She told me I could, but that I would definitely "feel it".  But again, this was my dr. based on my situation.

By "situation", I mean my height, weight, other prescription meds, medical conditions, etc.  There are lots of medications for other medical issues that would not mix well with alcohol.  For example, say someone blew out a knee and is on painkillers.  So for that person, drinking alcohol would be out of the question, regardless of the anxiety meds they were on.

"when I did I'd get anywhere from a little buzzed to completely drunk off my butt."
I wouldn't want to even get buzzed while on an SSRI but you say this is the minimum you would do, so it is something you should talk to your doc about because we can't make medical judgments here. By the way, alcohol is not recommended for people with depression even if they are not on meds.

If you dont mind, what do you mean by situation?

It's okay but from what I know, if you are on an SSRI, the alcohol will be a lot more potent. So drink about half of what you would normally drink. Personally, I avoid alcohol because of the meds...

From what I know it's not a good idea to drink while on these meds.
