Invasive thoughts?

I have had anxiety for a couple years now. It lightened up for awhile but just recently came back strong. And sometimes when I'm alone and gave time to think my mind starts racing and I have tons of thoughts I don't want to have. I don't know how to deal with this and it scares me into a panic attack. Am I alone in this? Can someone help? I'm scared.

I used to have terrible anxiety and racing thoughts. One simple trick that helps me is to look around the room and say, out loud, what you see. I know it sounds strange, but it takes your brain and refocuses it on something real and grounded. I also find that running ice cold water on my hands helps.
