Is this anxiety?

Here are my symptoms: 1 year ago woke up in the middle of the night w/extreme vertigo, I got up and walked around, calmed down and it subsided. It happened about a week later in the am, vomitting, etc. Then it happened while driving but not the same, more like a zap of adrenaline that caused a major headrush and disorientation for a brief moment. Since then, I have had these zaps about 5 or 6 times, all while driving. I have constant head pressure, feeling like I am swaying, going to fall over or sometimes just plain lightheadedness all day sometimes. It has gotten worse, not really worse but more prolonged lately. I have had an MRI, EKG (twice), Halter Monitor 24 hours, ENG and tests with a neorologist, ENT doctor did all the inner ear tests, water, etc, numerous blood tests, horomone test, My blood sugar sometimes runs a bit low but nothing bad, I need to eat consistently throughout the day, I feel this way a lot after a high carb meal, I am also extremely tired, so that my head feels heavy, pressure between the eyes that is always there, my body feels sluggish, like the blood is moving slow (I know it's not, just feels that way), pain that comes and goes in the back of my calf, muscle aches off and on. I am told, all anxiety but I just don't know. I tried Zoloft for 3 days and I couldn't sleep, eat or stop pacing the floor for 3 days so I quit it, that was 3 weeks ago and these symptoms that were once off and on are now persistant. Sorry for the long post, any ideas?

I guess I don't understand the lightheaded/dizzyness/head pressure all day long thing. Am I just that tight I don't realize it?

Yeah  definitely all related to anxiety. The MAJOR problem with anxiety is that we find it hard to accept that the physical manifestations of the dissorder are in the mind.Sure you feel all the symptoms and they ARE real, but the cause is not physical but emotional/mental.As someone once said "when the mind is anxious and stressed other organs in the body weep".So true!Concerning medication,I have had results with valium, and recently started again on the Remeron, which is not an SSRI,and doesnt have the side effects that ssris tend to have.I find remeron to be calming, and does not wind me up.On the other hand ,when I tried celexa,(an ssri), on day 3,I was climbing ceilings. It greatly increased my already high anxiety.Maybe try some Remeron.I also concur with JSGeare, that cbt is very helpfull in anxiety states.Best wishes.
Dimi.

Sure, I've got an idea: Wecome to the club!

Miserable situation, isn't it?

I'm a bit surprised by a 3 day course of Zoloft, surprised that you would feel anything one way or another after only 3 days, but everyone's different. Let's get down to cases.

First, you need to enlist the services of a qualified medical provider. If you want to cut right to the chase, ask you doc for a referral to a shrink who specializes in anxiety related disorders. You may also get a consult from the mental health folks at your health department if you have no doc or he/she is not on board with you.

Next, don't be afraid to inquire about some drug intervention to help with the symptoms. Drugs may or may not be indicated in your case, but in any event they will serve only to reduce symptoms -make them more managable. They are no drug that can get rid of what's causing the problem.

That's where the talk therapy comes in. There are various forms, but the idea is that YOU do the primary work of getting through to and resolving emotional material which powers the symptoms. The reason it is effective is that YOU do the actual work; the therapist is a sort of guide and commentator.

Finally, use this forum for support, to pass along your experience, to get and to give help. You are in some of the finest company on the planet.

I tried Zoloft and melyndamw tried Lexapro, I haven't tried Lexapro. I tried Prozac for 1 day and got all weird feeling on it. Tried Paxil for a few days 7 years ago, same side effect as Zoloft. So I am reluctant to try anything else. They seem to amp me up more. I am not depressed, I am frustrated with my condition, but do have energy. Antidepress seem to amp me up too much!! How do you deal with the lightheaded/dizzy thing and having to drive and funciton? I am doing everything I used to do, just struggling to do it, plus haven't been driving much lately for fear of passing out with the lightheaded/dizzy feelings and the "zaps". I have tried Xanax but don't take more than a crumb of a quarter of a piece, probably doesn't even do anything to me!

I know exactley how you feel, I have been dealing with anxiety for 6 years now, I have had all these symptoms, been to a dozen doctors had a million tests done and all they say is anxiety, I did try Lexapro, not good for me so I've been dealing with it on my own. This summer I started with the calf pain, kinda like a cramp but very deep, I couldn't work it out, went to the doctor, but no answer just went to physical therapy, I don't thinkit did any good. It finally went away. The vertigo is awful, I'm constantly dizzy, I hate to drive because I feel lightheaded, dizzy in a fog etc. Everyone says to excersise, but when you feel so tierd and dizzy, how do they do it? Anyway it sounds like anxiety that you have, unfortuantley you have to either find a medication that works for you or just learn to deal with it. Try breathing excersises and meditation it helps. I hope you feel better and have a Merry Christmas.
