I know about the psychiatry - it does seem that the profession has turned into writing scripts for meds vs. doing psychotherapy.
I highly recommend the psychotherapy as soon as possible - and perhaps some recommendations will come from that session.
It wouldn't be appropriate for any of us to make a recommendation for your wife re: what are the best meds for her.
She needs to be evaluated medically prior to selecting any drug treatment options.
Just offer her your support, love, patience, and plenty of hugs, reassurances that she will get help and once again feel good.
Keep telling her that this is only a temporary situation...
Good luck with your appointments...

You need to help her see a psychiatrist if her depression is severe. He/she will do an assessment and set up a treatment plan for her. She will also benefit from psychotherapy, too. But, start with a qualified psychiatrist. She is lucky that she has you to help her....good luck to both of you.
