Hi!  You are on a relatively small dose of Effexor Xr, which is the appropriate way to start.  As your body gets used to the medication, your doctor may increase the dosage.  I happen to be on a VERY high dose of it -- 300 mg.  That dosage is even over the recommended maximum of 225 mg, but my doctor, I think, thinks it's o.k.  At one time, I was on 375 mg!  I felt that was way too high, so he decreased it to 300 mg.  I've been on every dose inbetween.  Please give the medication a chance to work.  I know it's hard, but it takes time to kick in.  Hang in there!

i agree with Kalmkidd, keep on eye on your blood pressure. it raised mine too. that's one of the reasons i quit this med. your getting some good advice from people who are on it or have taken it. give it some time. it may take a week and it may take several weeks to start working. the best of luck to you, it's no fun to keep switching meds. take care. I started out of Effoxor at the beginning of my depression/anxiety, had what I thought was major side effects. Looking back realised it was the condition more than the drug that was causing what I thought was side effects. Stick with it, don't keep changing as this does no good in the end. All you do by changing is confused the body/mind & that's not what it needs right now, it need straight direction right now. So my advice would be 'stick with it', at least for now give it a chance to work. A few weeks is not enough for any anti-depressant so for gods sake give it at least a few months. It's an upward battle so you have to be really strong and take a deep breath before you see any change. Anything worthwhile is hard word remember that it might get you there.

Keep in touch.

Hi.  I've been on Effexor XR for many years.  No major side effects, at least not for me.  The doctors say that with antidepressants, it takes a few weeks to kick in.  Hang in there.  If you have any other questions about Effexor XR, please let me know.  Effexor XR, by the way, is a time-release medication, which means it stays in your body at a steady level all day.  You only have to take it once a day.  What dosage are you on?
