Scared....

Is it normal to have a heavy feeling in your head and be dizzy? I haven't been diagnosed with anxiety but ALL of my symptoms match what i have been reading up on. I was diagnosed with dyspepsia which causes a whole lot of stomach problems and ever since then I have this fear that i am dying even though i'm 18 and only 3 people in my family have ever had cancer etc.
I have a swollen lymph node and that worries me even though is hasn't gotten bigger over the last two years and doesn't hurt and i had them tested and all activity was normal. Am i making myself sicker? it's like a vicious cycle. I might be sick but stressing about it only makes it worse so if I am really sick i don't know because the stress and anxiety clouds my head. I would really like some advise.

It sure sounds like anxiety and unfortunately you're about the age it sometimes first strikes.

I can't tell you to "snap out of it" or "don't worry" because that won't help. You need to find your own path. Things that can help are regular sleep, eating well, exercise, keeping social, relaxing breathing or meditation and doing things for other people. Sometimes worry about your health is part of depression too. Anxiety and depression are flip sides of the same coin.

If you find yourself getting worse or you're having difficulty with day to day life then see a doctor. There are medications that can help if your self-help measures aren't enough.

Good luck. Things will get better.

The dizzy feeling that you describe is always with me.And I do agree with moonflower13,that the problem is a mental one.Anxiety feeds off this vicious cycle which must be broken.By worrying more about yourself you can make the symptoms worse, and the worry will also escalate.Where do you think the phrase,"worrying yourself sick"came from.Try to relax. You are only 18 with a long life ahead of you.Best wishes.

I do think you are experiencing high anxiety and possibly hypochondria about your family history with illness. I'd say the physical sensations that you describe are perfectly normal in a person who's suffering from anxiety -anxiety can have a very wide and varied range of symptoms.

Bear in mind that lymph nodes can and do get swollen for a variety of causes, most of which definitely aren't any serious conditions. I myself have had them and it was unimportant in each and every case. The human body gets sore, swollen, achy, etc. for a million causes that are inherent to living. Also, you said you got checked and everything was ok.

It sounds to me like your main problem is in your head, not in your body, and probably that anxiety is giving you a lot of pain. Go to see a doctor, just to make yourself feel more relaxed.

Hope you'll feel better soon.
