Strange feeling all the time

Hi, for the last year I have been experiencing a very strange reality. It's like I'm awake but I feel very distant from things as if they aren't really happening or I'm in a dream except I know I'm not. Sometimes I think I could do something really extreme just to see whether it's real or not. I function completely normally as in I work, see friends, do other things but I lose my head sometimes and forget things easily. Some days are worse than others too but I have never felt completely 'awake' for this whole year. This is now starting to worry me a lot.
I have been reading some other people's 'dream like' feelings and they are all related to anxiety. I wonder about this because I have never suffered from anxiety or depression and nothing in my life has happened that I can see would cause this anxiety?
The only thing I can think of is that I have been meaning to go to the doctor for a very long time but haven't because I'm scared there is something wrong with me. Would this cause the anxiety type symptoms that I've discussed?
Thanks

people often experience a dissociative state when they are having anxiety issues. I experienced this at the height of my panic issues. Once i started working on these issues (still am) that feeling became less frequent

don`t think of medicaments. It`s just anxiety ,a period ,believe me in everybody`s life.If there is  somewhere you feel better,or someone to share some good experiences with ,do it.Don`t hesitate.you will get over this.I wish you good luck..

I also suffer from depression and anxiety.  I have experienced exactly what you are describing.  Most of the time it was when my meds were off or when I was under too much stress.  It is nothing to worry about but I would let your dr know, if your meds are off they can help.

You answered your own question...

"I'm scared there is something wrong with me."

Although anxiety can be caused by a multitude of things. One main cause of anxiety is fear.

Although i must admit i've never come across anyone with this dreamlike sensation your describe.

If there's one thing i can suggest, it is to go to your doctor's as by the sounds of things, you've been putting it off for a while.
