Went to the Er

I been having left arm pain a few days, well today, I woke up from a nap, and I had this pressure pain, in my jaw, it was like at the hinge of your jaw... I have never had this before, and with the arm pain, I freaked out,, had my husband get up,, he works night and has to sleep in the day, I felt bad, but i was totally in a panic, I went there, and told them I didn't know if it was anxiety or heart, I told them I want  a EKg,, they did one, and said beside by heart rate was fast, that it looked ok, but they wanted to do blood work,, well the Doc, gave me a Xanax which I hate to take, but I did,   and all it did was make me tired, My heart rate was still not going down,,, Well they didn't do any thing else to me,, they wanted my heart rate to go down before they did the blood work which to me was stupid..I just couldnt take it,,,I had to leave before they did the blood work,, my anxiety wasnt getting any better, and I was starting to go into a full panic attack,,, so I left,, I just thought if they really thought I was having a heart attack, then they would be doing more for me,,, they gave me the EKg,, and then didnt come into the room for 30 m in,,, I just left,, now I am still freaking out thinking, wonder if it is my heart,,,, The pressure in my jaw is almost gone,, and my arm dont hurt as bad,, so I am sure that is the anxiety working,, alto I still fell a panic attack coming one,, I am trying to stay in the moment,,,,
Ok,, i will go,, just wanted to share my er trip,,,
My husband doesnt understand and gets mad at me,, here I am fearing for my life, and he is just like you do this all the time, which I dont, I haven't been to an er in over a year,,
I get so mad tha the dont show more compassion,, I know he is tired and needs his sleep,, but I really thought I was dying,
Ok,, I will go,
thanks for listing,

I have a Doc apt, tomorrow anyways cause I had a kidney infection, and I dont think the antibiotic worked, I am still cramping, so I am going to ask him to give me the blood work. I have a thyroid problem anyways, I am taking meds for that. I just feel wipe out now, I came home from the ER, around 3 and went to sleep and didnt wake up until 9;30.  I still feel out of it,, I think they gave me a stronger doses of Xanax then I am use to. I dont have the jaw pain , but I still have the  arm pain. I hope tomorrow is a better day,,
Thanks everyone for your response.

Hi Lou,

I agree with Torque.  I think you should make a follow-up appointment with your regular doctor who can do the required blood work for you.  Certainly, if your EKG was normal, then your heart is in good shape - a bloodtest will confirm this and likely put your mind at ease (certain enzymes are detected if one has a heart attack).  Another reason for having the blood test is to rule out any other physical reasons which could cause your symptoms (thyroid, for example).  I urge you to make the appointment within the next few days if you can and please tell them everything.  Again, a pre-printed list will likely be beneficial and will ensure you get to discuss ALL your symptoms with your doctor (there is nothing worse than going to the doctor and forgetting to mention a worrisome symptom which leads to the concern that disease  X was missed because you didnt mention symptom Y!).

Are you currently being treated for anxiety?  Panic attacks arent any fun but you can learn to cope and recognise them with the appropriate therapy and/or medication.  Unfortunately, anxiety symptoms are many and varied and mimic many serious diseases (heart disease, brain tumors etc. etc).  Once, the serious diseases have been ruled out, its time to work on rebalacing the serotonin in the brain by whatever method you feel is right for you.

Hi,

I am glad you went to the er. My husband doesnt understand either. He tells me just to deal with it- easier said then done. Anyway, why dont you make a appt with the doc to get the required tests just to make sure. I have had the jaw pain and the arm pain, but not at the same time. I can understand how terrified you must have been. Please keep us posted!! Good luck!
