What can i do to calm down?!!

Qix
Hello all, i am a 20 year old male. No previous medical problems except for my skin condition eczma and monocular vision. Just after my 20th birthday this year, i went to go to bed and i felt this pain in my left bicep. i get the odd pains now and again so i tried to ignore it for a minute but then i felt it down my whole arm . I then got up out of bed and walked around for a bit the next thing i know i started shaking and and felt my chest get very tight. I was thinking i was gonna have a heart attack so i rushed up to a&e which is like 30 mins drive from my house. got admitted had an eck and the doc said it was fine. i started to relax and feel abit better. he gave me a painkiller and sent me home. that night i felt so cold! i had a water bottle at my feet and my feet were like ice. I had a lot of case and abdomonal cramps. I could barley sleep i only feel alsleep when i was too drained to stay awake.

The next day i felt abit . i had all this pressure around my chest and i felt really fatigued. I got really worried again and asked my parents to take me to a and e again on the car ride up my chest was tight i was sweating! i never sweet! my hands were tingling! and then both or my hands from the fingertips to my forarm went numb for a minute. I felt like i was gonna pass out. lucky my sister was there rubbing my hand i prob would of. I finally go to a and e and i was waiting to be seen my right leg was shaking like crazy i had never felt so ill.

In a and e i got another ecg then i got a complete blood test to test for clots and infections and all. This all came back fine. i got a chest xray which again came back fine. the doc said i was abit constipated and i sound very anxious and said that it was a viral infection. after the results i started to feel better and calmer.I got given laxitives and sent home again and the doc said to me he is 100% sure there is nothing seriously wrong with me.

A few days past and them for about 4 days i felt my old self and great all be it a little drained.

Then after 4 days something happened that started my worrying again but i calmed down and just pushed on. the next day i was looking in the mirror and noticed my neck pulsating like crazy i mean i could see my neck pulsating . this started me worrying again and when i was brushing my teeth a got a pain in my tooth ! This again got me very worried and i was thinking about my heart again!

Given what the doc had said a few days before i just kept saying to myself its anxiety and tried to get on with things. i found myself looking up google about pulsating neck trying to find re assurance with videos on youtube and any info i could get my hands on to re assure me.

I started to get a tight chest again and along with my pulsing neck i noticed my stomach was pulsing also and i could see it! i put a plate on my stomach and it was just pulsing like crazy. I started to worry like crazy and again i had a sore stomach and could not sleep! a had this for a few days and a few sundays ago i woke up and felt so drained!! i could not keep my head up! i looked really pale and i was always cold!

I really was not happy and i started to panic! since it was a sunday i could not see my gp so i went to an out of hours doctors at the hospital i told her eveything about my situation and told her about my neck and stomach she said it was normal and she got me on a table and check my stomach and felt it and she said it was ok.

When i was there talking to the doctor she done my blood pressure and hearate. she said when i walked in it was 150! and when she was done talking to me it was down to 105.  She said it was anxiety and i went home.

I felt re assured and a bit better but did not feel much different. I just felt really ill.

I stuck with this for a few days and i just did not feel any better . My chest was tight i felt realy cold and so fatigued!! i mean extremely tired! my shoulders and neck was sore i had pains all over me. then that night i took a sharp pain in the center of my chest. I had that tightness but never a pain like that! this just made me go crazy with worry and i waited a few hours and went to bed. the pain hit me again with tightness and i started to really panic and i just felt really glazed over and i just not want to talked now i was up at the hospital a few time and naturally my parents thought i was over reacting by going up again and i really did not want to have to get my dad up again to drive 40 minutes so i rang the ambulance which was the first time i have ever been in an ambulance in my life! The ambulance arrived and they took my blood pressure listiened to my pulse in my arm and chest. they aslo hooked a monitor on my chest and they said it was all fine. they asked me if  i wanted to stay home or go with them. i said for my own peace of mind i would go up and get checked.

I got in the ambulance and was told to sit down so that made me feel better that they didnt tell me to lay down. on the way up i told the paramedic all that was going on with me and he mentioned anxiety and i said i know and we just chatted on they way up. I got  out of the ambulance and the paramedic got me a chair with wheels and pushed me down to a and e . The nurse took my blood pressure and heart rate. If i can remember my heart rate was 110 but im not sure.

I got another ecg and blood test. again they all came back fine!! i remember the nurse had to shave my chest and cause the monitors kept falling off lol she finally got them on and she said" all that for two seconds"  i said how does it look and she said that it was fine.

I waited in a and e on a bed for about 30 mins with my parents then the doctor came in and i just asked him. What are these pains!! as you do you start asking about eveything and he said there is nothing wrong with me heart and i was asking about faulty valves and all that and he said that it would of showed up and anything like that would have shown up!. he said that it was anxiety and to see the gp to pursue it futher. he gave me painkillers and sent me home.

I had an appointment with my gp coming up in about a 4-5 days so i could do nothing but sit and wait untill then. I felt really tired!! and just so run down. My head hurt my neck my back shoulder arms and chest all hurt! then the 2 days before my appoinment. had a pain in my upper jaw and teeth the pain came more from the right side of my mouth but i also felt it on my left almost like symmetry? i look at one of my teeth and it looked quite black! and it looked chipped! here is me " i dont believe it!" could this be the cause of my head aches and jaw pain . I thought i may og had a tooth infection because i had got a lump near my left earlobe and it had swelled quite alot with in a few days and sore to touch.

The next morning i woke up and i had very bad headache!! it felt like someone was sqeezing my head! i could trace the pain with my finer. and it was symetrical ( the pains followed the same path on both sides of my face and head) the pain felt like it was coming from  my bad tooth up to the side of me head and around the side of me head like a circle and my face hurt to i could barley open my eyes! i said to my parents to ring the dentist for an emergency appointment ! The dentist was going on holiday ad was all booked i said to my parents that i really need to see a dentist and despite the fact that i may not have even been seen i went up any way and waited . i was just hoping i was gonna be seen.

and 10 mins before  the dentist was gonna stop for lunch i was called!

i had exactly the same, your always trying to find something else wrong with you, you fear of cancers and all sorts of things, just remember anxiety cant hurt you, its just an overdose of adrenalin ruonning through you, you body needs re-training how to calm down, try some relaxation tapes, "kelly howell" has some good audio specificaly designed for these problems, i dowloaded everything of hers, i got to the point were i needed to be medicated, im on an anti depressant called efexor, and havent felt any symptoms in over a year now

So, before my diagnosis, I've been posting here really confused about what was going on with me. I've had just about every symptom you had, and I had always been told it was anxiety/panic attacks. The symptoms would go into remission some days, and I would think, great, I think I am getting better, and everything comes back at full force. Since most doctors would tell me it was anxiety, I went a couple weeks where I tried an antidepressant (I wasn't depressed at all), and I just felt much, much worse. They tried me on many heart medications, blood pressure medications, acid reducers, etc, and nothing made me feel better. My old doctor told me that if I didn't take my anti-depressant and beta-blocker there is nothing she could do for me, and that's when I decided to leave her.

Now, I had many more weird symptoms than this (arm pains, foot numbness, muscles twitches, blurry vision that made me see an ophthalmologist, exercise intolerance, alcohol intolerance, stiff neck, short term memory loss, dizziness, etc), but I just got a look like I was crazy when I would bring in a symptom list covering the front and back of a piece of paper. All the symptoms were a sudden onset too. I went from feeling great, to feeling like I have been hit by a train.

So, being sick of MD's, I saw an ND (Naturopathic Doctor), and the first thing she asked me after reading my chart is if I had been tested for Lyme. I said, yes, I actually had, but all I had was an ELISA (very inaccurate test). I was tested with a Western Blot, and I am off the charts positive for Lyme and have been reported to the Center of Disease Control.

I don't know where you live, but Lyme is common in the U.S. and Europe, and is transmitted by ticks. I haven't been to an epidemic area. I've been bitten by a few ticks in my life, but never seen a rash. My symptoms started with swollen lymph nodes in my groin, and the lump in your neck is probably a lymph node.

The way you described certain things was all-to-familiar to me. For an example, the way you described your eye soreness was exactly how my eyes felt at the beginning. If you continue to be sick, I think you should consider getting tested for Lyme. If you have it, you can be treated with antibiotics. I don't want anyone to have to go through what I have to get a diagnosis. My presentation wasn't "typical" Lyme, but there truth is, there is no such thing as typical Lyme symptoms. Some people get arthritic symptoms, and others have neurological, nervous system and/or heart symptoms.

Anxiety and panic attacks can be a symptom of an underlying disease, and if you don't start feeling better, I think it's worth further investigation. Your anxiety may be caused by anxiety, but the sudden onset you describe sounds somewhat suspicious. Doctors may tell you different, but I am still a little bitter about them, so I will refrain from criticizing them.

Now, please don't let my post make you more anxious. I am not trying to scare you, I am just making a guess based upon my experience. I was a bit of a hypochondriac with OCD while going through this, and it's easy to be one when you aren't feeling well. Avoid doing this.

Your 20 years old so the chances of having PAD are extremely slim to none.
Wow! 20/20 vision. That's great.
The pains your feeling are probably from tight muscles. This is so common with anxiety. You tense up and your muscles get sore and tight.
It's very common to notice your pulse too when your anxious.
I think it would be a good idea to see you GP and tell him about all of your symptoms. To me, it sounds like your very healthy but your suffering from anxiety.
Take care. Remar

thanks remar.

I just keep thinking there is something more! and it really gets to me.

I went to the opticions today and they said i had perfect 20/20 vision!

After that i felt kind of better but still had dull pains in my arms.

And this is exactly the trigger for my worry.

Whenever i feel normal and pain free i get a pain and i am straight into panic mode. and these pains very rarley ever go away.

Im getting the pains in my arms and legs and chest. I keep thinking i have pad or aaa. feels like my body is pulsing. everything i touch i feel a pulse.

Now here is something interesting. last night i started looking into pad and i started to get up and stretch, move and shake my legs and body. I then checked my stomach and the pulsing in my stomach had all but gone :/

I have no idea what that means. I keeping think i have blocked arterys and thats what causing the pains.  How would i know i have pad? i had 3 ecg's and i remember  monitors on my feet so if there was any blockcage it would show up . so i dunno. i keep thinking  everything :( you see i sit around alot so this is why iim thinking it.

do you think i should go to my gp and mention it or is it my anxiety :(

Your welcome. Congrats on the good grade!
Sometimes we think the stress in our lives is no big deal but we all deal with it differently, some of us better than others.
Your doet does look pretty good. I would cut out so many carbs and add more protein. Make sure your taking a high quality vitamin, not the kind you buy at the grocery store. And make sure your getting plenty of the B vitamins. When your feeling anxious drink some milk with a turkey sandwich. They both have tryptophan, I know I spelled that wrong, sorry, in them that calms you.
I understand how you feel. Breathing does help. It sounds like you also have generalized anxiety disorder too. I'm not a Dr and only your Dr can tell you if this is what it is.
Do you understand what GAD is? It's when your anxious all the time.
Alot of us that have anxiety worry about every little ache and pain.
I think it would be a great idea to see your GP.
I'm always here to talk with, okay. Take care. Remar

Thanks remar for the reply! I may see my gp to arrange an appointment. I do have stress in life but nothing that is really big! I just good exam result so i should be happy! which i am but these pains keep making me worry :(.

I am on no meds atm i am not a pill person but i do take vitamins that my doc gave me and omega 3,6,9 capsuals. before that i took the odd fish capsual and my diet was not that bad. I dont drink fizzy drinks i only drink bottled water. i rarely eat crisps. My diet before this happened would consist of maybe a bowl of cereal then a biscuit then maybe a nibble of something . then dinner which could be pizza, pasta, noodles, chicken dinner, steak dinner, chicken broth. and i eat some form of fruit everyday .

My diet aint that bad i dont think.

I keep really all the time about people with anxiety and they say it comes and goes they do breathing and it settles.

With me it feels like im in constant panic ! and even when i dont feel that bad i will get a pain and bam!! i start to worry :( i just cant seem to stop it.

thanks for the comment again remar:)

I'm going to comment on your first post. What your felling DOES sound like anxiety and panic attacks. The very fast heart rate, the tight feeling in your chest, the worry.
Is there anything that's going on in your life that's very stressful for you right now?
I would recommend getting an appointment with a counselor. Maybe, and I say maybe you might want to try an anti anxiety med for when you do have a panic attack. When you feel one coming on try an not concentrate on your heart rate but your breathing. Try and breathe slow and deep.
Can I ask what your diet is like? Are you eating healthy and taking vitamins, especially the B vitamins?
There are so many of us here that go through what you do and it is anxiety. We understand and we're here to listen, so your not alone. Take care. Remar

i sat in the chair and the dentist to an xray of my teeth and checked my teeth i told him i was getting alot of pain around my upper right jaw. he poked and prodded and said there was nothing wrong! i had not cavities bad teeth or infections! i was gobsmacked! and said why am i getting all this pain around me head and jaw. he said he didnt know but my gums where i had alot of the pain was inflamed and he prescribed me antibiotics and sent me home.

When i got home i rang and got my teeth xray results and they said it was all fine except my wisdom tooth in my upper right jaw was coming through but it should not cause the headaches i was having and i could have it extracted.

the next day i went to see my gp which was first time i had seen my gp in like 6 years. i told her about everything that was going on.  she looked at my test results and she listiened to my heart and said everything sounded good. i told her i was worried about my heart and the lump on my ear she checked it and said it was fine. i asked herw about any heart valve probs she said she would be able to hear that and it would showed in the ecg and i asked about a neurology disorder she said nope and said that i was very very anxious. since the dentist already gave me anti biotics she just gave me some vitamins and said u need to get out more and do things.

I guess i should say now that i am not a very outgoing person i spend about practically everyday at my computer in my house and i dont exercise . I have friends and i dont seem them that much. i dont fear people are the outside i guess the only way i could describe it is a lack of ambition to do anything! i am 11 stone whcih is not heavy but most of my body feels fat because i dont do much.

Well i felt abit better after the doctors and just really tried to ignore the pains and tightness and get on with it. then a few days later one of my parents mates said something that was related to health. and i started to think about it and got a panic attack thinking i could have it. i calmed down and taking my advice i arranged for my mates to come down for the weekend thinking it would do me some good.

I was still feeling horrible but my chest tightness and pains were not there. my friends arrived and we had a laugh and a good night. i felt really tired and went to sleep. i woke up the next day and i felt sooo tired and horrible i felt like i was losing it for lack of a better word. I felt like my mind was really cloudy and  the back of my head near my crown and a quarter the way up  the top of my head felt really sore and tender when i touched it. my eyes felt extremely sore! like pressure around my eyes and on the inside of my eye i could feel the muscles at the side of my eye push against my eyes like someone was poking my eye. This is when i started ti notice floaters in my eye!

Now i must say i have always had floaters in my eyes and i didnt really notice them to the extent i did this day its like the more you for something the more you find it? i started to get really worried and just paniced and felt really ill again. my sister and my mates all took me out for a walk to try and take my mind of it but it kind of made me feel abit worse physically but i felt a bit better in my mind.

I just put up with all day and then my called me in to watch something on youtube . in the video you had to read abit of writing and when i was reading the writing after about 3-10 seconds when i focused on a word with my eyes it eveything around the word got bigger and our of focused and the word i was looking at got blurred. This really scarred me as i have monocular vision which means i look with one eye or the other but done use both of my eyes at the same time plus i had an op to turn my eye in.

I started to panic and felt like i was losing my mind. So my mates said it was eye strain and it did make sense because my enxiety was tensing all my muscles in my head in facing it must have done it with my eyes too. I went alseep and the next day my mates went home.

it been about a week now and i feel nearly the same to be honest. My visions seems to almost went back to normal there is not as much pressure around my eyes but i stilll get it abit and the the crown of my head and top of head is still sore to touch . my neck and shoulders are abit achy but not that bad. I still notice the floaters in my eye a bit more than i should. i still get the odd chest pain and tightness now i must say i get the tightness mostly when im laying down on my back i feel alot of pressure when i lay flat on my back though i dont get tightness/ pressure when i lay on my side or on my chest i dont really feel the tightness or pain when i stretch my chest muscles or my arms.

The thing that really worries me the most of the tightness/ pressure pain around me chest. as i  said when i lay flat on my back i notice pressure more when i try to relax in that postion when i move there pressure does seem to go away. My chest also feels really sensitive and it has done since this all began for example i can bare having my t shirt touch my chest because or the pressure it causes or it feels like it adds to the pressure around me chest.

I dont get pressure alll the time it only seems to be in certain positions i.e laying flat and trying to relax. The same goes for the sharp pain ! it seems to be very random and pain always seems to be near the right of the centre of my chest . just right beside my right pec. i just leaned to my right and burped and i got a chest pain. and i just leaned back in my chair there and rose forward quite quick and got a sharp pain right across my right shoulder across my peck and into my chest on the right!

Well that is where i am right now. I really dont know what more i can do to make this anxiety go away!

I feel ok and quite happy but it also feels like my body is in a constante state of shock and it is worrying me silly.

I have tried breathing exercises but when i try and get relaxed i get alot of tensions and pressure around my chest which just worries me more.

i just feel so lost and to a certain extent alone. I feel scared that i cant control what my body is doing.

I just dont know what else to do:( before this happened i never got sick! the last time i was sick i was like 12 so this is a massive shock to me and it has been going on for near 6 weeks! i just i could calm down and stop think that everything is wrong with me!!!

Its just strange some times i dont feel anxious and bam! i get a pain and the viscous circle starts !

If anyone feels like they are in the same boat let me know as i need some re assurance and maybe some tips on how to control this please :D

Thanks all
