Concern about Slightly elevated platelet count

Healthy 45 yr old woman

Routine blood work showed platelet count of 449 (lab range is 400 for normal)

All else normal except neutrophils a tad high and leukocytes a tad low

Haven’t been sick in ages, but have been dealing with bad stress/anxiety for 2 mos

Am in a state of panic that it’s a sign of cancer

Retesting in a month but not sure how to handle the wait and the possible bad results

Can stress/panic attacks increase platelet count?

Do you know that 450 is considered the top end of normal by some labs?  Generally, slightly elevated platelet counts are not something to be worried about.  Your doctor should tell you this.  Also, if you have any type of inflammation in your body, it can raise your platelet level.  I would not panic or stress over this.  Treat your stress and panic attacks though.  If they are interfering with your life, talk to your doctor and get help.
