I believe that illegal drug use can brin out dormant GAD. I know this from experience. I used cocaine once and that brought out my first panic attack and week of derealization. THen i was back to normal for couple months. THen one night after having couple shots of tequilla, boom anxiety symptoms appeared. It began with pressure in the head then lead to more common symptoms like being nervous, anxious, fear of dying and beeing doomed, etc. I did not abuse drug reguraly but I still got hit with GAD.Wish I never done any drugs.
He asked me about it. I have no history of meth abuse but strictly panic disorder associated with depression. Zoloft and xanax have been a god send for me.
My doc told me that repeated meth abuse will cause depression and anxiety later in life. When users ingest meth it releases more dopamine than any other drug which in turn throws off the chemical balance and seratonin levels. Yes, this is no myth but a proven fact that a normal functioning individual who later in life developes anxiety and panic would be a direct result of repeated meth abuse.
i was referring to illegal drug use, howoever, that is interesting to know about anti anxiety medications as well
Most anxiety disorders caused by previous drug use are temporary in nature. However, in many cases, the patient already had an underlying anxiety/panick disorder that hadnt yet manifested or whose symptoms were masked or attenuated by the drug(s) being used. Often times drug use (including, ironically, anti-anxiety meds) can aggrevate an existing "dormant" anxiety disorder, setting it into action. It is always possible for anypsychoactive drug to cause temporary or permanent changes in certain limited areas of brain function.
alot of drugs prescribe or not can cause signs of anxiety, what drugs are we talking about here prscibed or other?
