cognitive distortions?

hey everyone,
went to my psychologist last night and she suggested that i "google" cognitive distortions and dysfunctional thoughts.  i looked them up and i don't quite understand the dysfunctional thoughts.  all it kept saying was about people that are depressed.  i have anxiety and panic, but LUCKILY not depression that i know of.  i seemed to have fit perfectly into the congnitive distortion catagory though.  is anyone familiar with either of these issues?

I spent several years pouring through psychiatric literature trying to find a diagnosis for all my distorted thoughts.  I think I diagnosed myself with at least a dozen different disorders.  I finally realized that my thinking is probably less distorted than at least half the population.  I also think, in my case at least, the search for a diagnosis is in large part due to an overly energetic and analytical mind.

Try this exercise... put away the books and the googling for a while and focus on all that's right with your thinking.  You'll probably discover that you are much more normal than you think.

=)

Your psychologist in my opinion is lazy.  SHE should explain them to you and NOT tell YOU to "google" them.  That is what she is getting paid for.  I would drop her like a hot potatotoe, and find a psychologist who would explain to me and talk to me for the money I and my insurance company or I alone would pay her for.
