Boy, some odd comments here.  To the poster:  yes, there are many natural methods of dealing with anxiety, but it depends on how much the anxiety is disrupting your life.  If you're still functioning okay, just not optimally, then the natural way is the best way.  If you're not functioning much at all, then you may need medication.  As to clinical trials mentioned above, I've said this before, you need to look at those clinical trials.  There are many done with natural remedies, just not so much in the US.  Where do you think most of our meds come from?  They're just stronger versions of natural remedies, so if you don't need that strength and the problematic effects that come with it then natural remedies can be very good.  They are also very good for those who are very sensitive to things, because they're more likely to get a good strong effect from natural remedies.  People are different.  Therapy is a natural treatment.  Meditation, clinically proven, is a natural remedy.  Exercise is a natural remedy.  Amino acids that naturally manufacture the substances meds target are a sort of natural remedy.  Diet is a natural remedy for those who have dietary sensitivities that are creating or exacerbating their problem, such as wheat, gluten, and dairy sensitivities, widespread in the population.  As for meds, clinical trials are all short time, not all that much better than placebo, and the patients are cherry picked to make sure none of us hard cases bring down the results.  And you should see the drop-out rates!  So yes, by all means try natural remedies before meds, although nothing is completely safe the natural stuff is reversible and quitting is easy if it becomes a problem.  The only problem is adulteration, which is due to the lack of money put into regulation, but meds have the same problem -- check the record of Teva, the largest generic manufacturer out there, or of GlaxoSmithKline, which has been found to have broken the law and lied on virtually all of its blockbuster drugs.  It's a jungle out there, folks, and meds are not less a part of that jungle than natural remedies.  So to the poster:  check out a book by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA, called Natural Highs.  It will give you a good primer on how holistic psychiatrists and naturopaths use combinations of natural remedies.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't -- just like meds.

I am pretty doubtful that diet will have any effect on anxiety, and all the claims of herbal cures have never gone through clinical trials so anyone can make them. There is no way to assure yourself of purity because there are no manufacturing standards on the products, so even if something works you could end up with flat periods because the last batches you bought didn't meet standards.
Vigorous exercise is proven to reduce anxiety, at least temporarily for a few hours so if you can handle it that is one place to start. However if the anguish is too much, it is hard to even get it out of your head while exercising.

(1) Diet - eat at least 20 grams of protein per meal (eggs, almonds, walnuts, yogurt, turkey, tuna, etc); cut out all caffeine and sugar
(2) Exercise - swimming is the best
(3) Try passion Flower tincture and/or decaf green tea (theanine)
(4) Supplements - vit D, fish oil, vit B, etc
(5) read about amino therapy - 5HTP, tryptophan, etc

Good luck

No need to bore us with your sex exploits as this is an anxiety forum.

All meds have side effects including ones users never think about, like Motrin. If everyone read the package inserts for them, and ignored the fact that the chances for Motrin giving a side effect are virtually non-existent, then very few would take it.
Everyone has different experience with the same drug, and what works for one person may not work for another. Sometimes it takes some experimenting to find the right one.

Sorry but you are wrong. I've never felt the way i did after taking that and never ever had erectile disfunction until i took that pill. As soon as it wore off, about a day and a half later i was back to normal. By the way i never read the info about side effects and i was actually somewhat happy to try it going in, thought maybe it would help me. I guess i'll just never be normal again because i'm too scared to try any more meds. If only i could skip the bad part and just get the good effects, but even then it's most likely not for me because even if it stopped my anxiety i would be unhappy do to the sexual effects, i've always had a high sex drive and my equipment always works great,up fast and can last, i couldn't have it any other way

Celexa takes weeks to build in your system before it can have an effect. Each dose takes about a week to start exiting your body, so the only way you get an effect from it is taking it every day for weeks so it can build. Maximum effect occurs around 6 - 8 weeks of CONSISTENTLY taking it.

The minimum time to get an effect is after at least 1 week, and that is a weak effect and most people do not get anything until they take it for longer.
Taking half a pill is only 5 mg. When I quit celexa years ago I had to taper off the dosage slowly in order to let the body adjust gradually. By the time I got down to 5 mg, my pharmacist said that was so tiny that she didn't think it could even affect me. She said there wasn't enough in my system at that point to bother even taking 5 mg so just said to stop taking it.

I doubt one 5 mg dose had the effects you are thinking it had or even any effect.

What med did you try, and what dose?  Were you very anxious about trying the medication?  While some people most definitely can have a strong reaction to meds, usually most times it's rare to see such a reaction after only a half a pill.  I just wonder if perhaps your reaction was more anxiety-induced because you were anxious about trying a medication?  That's a pretty common occurence.

I hear you but all i took was 1/2 a pill and it made me feel like killing myself, worst down feeling ever and it gave me erectile disfunction, i've never ever had that problem before. I can't go through that for a week it was horrible. If i had a gun that night, i would not be here today. Maybe therapy but no drugs if they're like that, can't trust it. If my penis isn't working i wouldn't be happy anyway

Hi there.  I'm glad you are trying yoga and journaling.  Look into meditation too.

Regarding medication. Some medications have some transient or start up side effects.  I would consider trying medication again but this time going really slowly with increasing the dose to therapeutic levels.   Talk to your doctor about doing this.  In this way, you slowly introduce the medication to your body so have fewer start up side effects.  Also, remember that if you have anxiety, some of what you may be feeling when starting medication could be a factor of that anxiety rather than the actual drug.  So, try to weather past a few days to allow the drug to work.

And the best thing anyone can do is a combination approach of medication AND talk therapy.  The talk therapy part is really essential and even if someone can not tolerate medication----  the talk therapy will help.  So consider adding things to the things you are doing.  Lots of luck to you dear

Thanks, i have tried a bit of yoga but i'm a beginner and not very flexible yet and i've been keeping a journal. I'm just so frustrated because i'll have some good days and think i'm making progress and then it will happen again. It's really bringing me down. I did try medication but i barely made it through 1 night so i couldn't continue on it

I always believe the best 'natural' way to confront your anxiety is through counseling with a professional and/or a group that are sharing some of the same experiences as yourself.  For me, gaining the knowledge to understand the source(s) of my anxiety and how to deal with it, empowered me to confront it.

Hi there.  You could try Yoga which is often recommended as well as meditation.  There is an art to meditation but when done correctly, can be very calming.

Do you keep a journal?  This is a really good outlet for the tension/anxiety.

And if you are not interested in taking medication (which often works fantastic for anxiety symptoms)-----  you can also do traditional talk therapy.  Even when done alone without medication, this can be very very effective at helping someone overcome anxiety.

Lots of luck to you!
