is it safe to stop taking paxil after taking it for 2 days?

I've been on 10 mg of paxil for the last 2 days because of my panic attacks and anxiety.
Yesterday i had to go to the hospital , i was having a really bad panic attack because of the paxil and now i don't want to take it anymore.
Also because it made me feel tired and dizzy during the day, it made me have blurry vision and my pupils were dilated. It made me feel even more depressed.
I didn't take any today but i still feel tired, my pupils are still really big and still have slightly blurred vision.  I also take ativan for my anxiety which does help a bit.
Because i stopped taking it will it make me have more panic attacks or anything else? And how long will the paxil stay in my system, when will i feel back to normal?

Hi I'm not sure how old this post is but I'm experiencing the same thing. I was prescribed paxil back in high school and I didn't take it for a long time but recently I've been feeling horrible and my anxiety is through the roof. I decided to take one to see if it would help and it seemed to help the first day, but the 2nd day I didn't sleep at all and I felt like I was high and wired. Ive read about seratonine sydrome so I'm not sure if I should keep trying to take it or not.

This post is about 10 years old.

If I remember correctly I felt fine within a few days after stopping the paxil. I now take mirtazapine 30mg (started at 15mg) for my anxiety and depression, as well as insomni. It acts more like a seditive and needs to be taken at night, very different from paxil. It made me tired during the day for the first week or so but it helped more than anything else I've tried in the past 10 years. No horrible anxiety side effects either. Hope this helps!

Yeah, this is an ancient post.  But you should never self-medicate.  You don't say how many years ago you were taking Paxil, but if it's been awhile it's lost a lot of its potency by now, perhaps most of of it.  The first day was a placebo effect, the second day who knows?  It takes some weeks for antidepressants to start to work, but side effects can start right away.  Perhaps you stored these in a way that limited normal deterioration.  But if you think you need help, therapy would be called for and if you need meds a psychiatrist would be called for, not grabbing just anything from your old discards.  Also know that Paxil is a particularly difficult med for most people to take and stop taking, so it's not usually a first choice med if your psychiatrist is up to speed.  I'd ask, anything happen recently to ramp up your anxiety?  Things happen sometimes, it doesn't necessarily mean you have a chronic problem.  As for serotonin syndrome, it is quite rare and usually happens when someone takes several substances at the same time that target serotonin. As for the length of time it stays in the body, not very long, and for it to actually work you'll need a refill -- it's an antidepressant, not a benzo -- to take it long enough for it to start working.  I'd also say that when one takes remeron depends on the person -- it is definitely an antidepressant, not a sedative, though it can be very sedating as an unwanted side effect.  Different people have different reactions, however -- for me, Paxil was quite sedating.

I have been on Xanax (2mg for approx 18 mos) and my Dr. prescribed Paxil to help me wean off the Xanax. Well, I researched on the net the effects of Paxil, and decided on my own not to take it. It cost over $40 (should have researched BEFORE I went to the pharamcy) for a 30 day supply. Well, I'm still trying to detox myself from Xanax by lowering the dosage.  After this drug is out of my body, I plan to cure my anxiety through prayer and breathing exerices.  I'm also seeing a phschotheripist once a week.  I suggest you call your local Drug store or Dr. and ask about stopping the Paxil. I am in no position to give advice.  I can't even solve my own problem.   Good luck and God bless you.

The votes seem to favor you stopping the Paxil could turkey. BUT, as I'm sure any who have reported their own experience will tell you, that's just their experience and opinion. At the very least, leave  a message with your doc telling him/her that you're stopping the Paxil. Sudden ingestion and withdrawal of anything can pose problems of its own. And then get a decent consult to figure out what a better treatment course may be. Hang in!

I am not a doctor, but if you were on it for only 2 days then it wouldnt be a problem stopping.Paxil becomes a problem when it has been taken for an extended period,as withdrawals can be horrendous when you want to come off it.Consult your doctor about a more suitable medication.Seems the paxil adversely affected you. After only 2 days the drug has not had time to accumulate in you body.Keep in mind however that many of these drugs can have these sideffects initially, and subside as the drug accumulates in your body, usually about 2-4 weeks.Hope u get suitable treatment for your condition.Best of luck.
