Hi! Im one of the posters with emetophobia. Are you afraid to actually vomitt? or are you afraid of just in public?
The brain and the stomach are very closely connected. You have brain cells in your brain, and you also have brain cells in your stomach. Thats why when people get upset, they lose appitite, when people get nervous they get "butterflies" in their stomach, thats also why nausea is one of the most common symptoms of anxiety. When your brain is upset, most likely your stomach will be too.
Im 17 (18 in 2 days) and have had emetophobia as young as 2 years old. I waited until I was 16 almost 17 to seek help and I REALLY regret not seeking help earlier. Talking to a doctor is a huge step...and youve taken those first steps by posting here. Dont be afraid to go to the doctor...they are only there to help you. I remember crying before going to the doctor, and when officially being diagnosed with emetophobia and being recomended to therapy and medication, I cried all night long. It is scary, but now that I am on the road to recovery I am so glad I took those steps.
Pot has different effects on different people. It is actually perscribed to people (in some states) as a treatment for nausea. I am moving to Rhode Island for college in 2 weeks and I am actually going for a perscription for marijuana because I am nauseous almost all the time (due to anxiety) and as long as I am never nauseous, I dont get anxiety. (its a vicious cycle of anxiety causing nausea, which creates more anxiety) However, sometimes pot gives people panic attacks. Depends on how much you smoke and when the conditions are.
Try drinking chamomile-mint tea. The chamomile eases anxiety, and the peppermint eases nausea. Maybe bring a mug or cup of tea when you go out.
Again, I really recommend seeing a psychiatrist...they are phychologists who can perscribe medication if they feel you need it. You definitely are not alone and you can beat this!
Hello and welcome!
It sounds like you are suffering from "Emetophobia", which is an unnatural fear of vomiting. If you search the forum, you'll find you're not alone, we actually have a few regular posters who suffer with this as well. It can be very debilitating, affecting your nutrition, self esteem, etc. Like ANY form of anxiety, the best approach is to seek some professional help. A good starting place is your doctor. You can explain what has been going on and ask about a referral for therapy. At your young age, therapy, specifically CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) is a great treatment option for you.
Ask your parent(s) to help you make an appointment so you can get the ball rolling. Best of luck...please update us!
