I really wasn't giving you a "scolding" for what you wrote, so there was no need to apologize. But it HAS been well documented that even chronic anxiety and panic attacks will NOT kill or harm us. It IS a fact that during an attack, our BP can and often does skyrocket, but unless one already has some underlying and untreated heart condition, our hearts are extremely strong muscles and can withstand the increase in pressure for the duration of a "normal" attack.
Chronic STRESS on the other hand, CAN do damage to our bodies, but you did not talk about chronic stress, you spoke only of anxiety and panic attacks.
You say you get severe hypertension during panic attacks. Do you know what those numbers are? Have you been diagnosed with hypertension and if so, are you treating it?
Everyone, and not just those of us with anxiety issues, should know what their blood pressure is. They don't call it the "silent killer" for no reason.
I am not going to state, as fact, that no one has died during a panic attack. But I stand by the vast amount of medical research that states otherwise.
As for being careful about what we write here applies to all of us...........there are some very fragile people here and scaring them with "facts" can be very detrimental.
Thanks for writing back.
Peace

Ha! I did use the F-word didn't I? I do try to avoid it and state my musings are opinion but I guess it slipped out this time. Sorry.

Let me try again...

The point I was trying to make is that chronic stress and anxiety, either via full blown panic attacks or constant anxiety, MAY have a negative effect on the body. Of course a panic attack here and there will probably do no harm. Info came from journals like JAMA, websites like the one by the Mayo Clinic, basic A & P, and stuff like that. I just type in "anxiety" or "stress" in the search function and read the results. In no way am I trying to write the story on these.

On the personal experience side, during my panic attacks, i get very severe hypertension and was told by my personal physician and those in the ER that that type of hypertension could have a negative impact if not controlled.

I will try to be a bit more careful and less dramatic in future posts.

Could you please cite your reference material backing up your facts.
Thank you

"They" say panic attacks will not kill or harm you. I don't really buy that. Fact is chronic panic attacks can do harm to the body. That is why it is important to get them under control especially if you BP and heart rate go too high during attacks.

Panic attacks themselves are not going to kill you, as far as I have seen lol but even so have you had a do up with your doctor ruling out any medical problems if not please do so, the longer you wait can get you in deeper and he/she can help you get into psychotherapy to help you to understand A/P more with coping skills and if need be meds to help control your thoughts with anti-D's and faster meds on a need be case to help stop panic attacks or slow them down so you can deal with them

The end result of a panic attack is increased anxiety. Any physical symptoms that come on from a panic attack will subside when it does. I can't say something simple like "put the other things out of mind" because I know that worrying about death and other disturbing thoughts is part of anxiety disorder. On the other hand, focusing on it won't help. Just say you are experiencing a panic attack and it will pass. If the panic attacks are this intense and fixated and won't go away speak to your psychiatrist about adjusting treatment. As well psychotherapy and behavioral psychology can help.
