Loxamine is another brand name for Paroxetine... mostly known as Paxil in the States and Seroxat in the UK.  It is a SSRI.... Paroxatine is a potent anti-depressant but it does work extremely well.

Plus i have to toally agree with Mammo, the doctor who prescribed it shouldnt of given you the worst out come to taking these and it does shound like he/she was trying to put you off and scare you.  Take Mammo's advice and seek out another doctor who will be more sensitive to your needs.

You have to bare in mind that everyone is an individual who takes these drugs, everyones experience will be different but i have copied and pasted this from a web-site explaining the side effects of Paroxatine..........A person receiving paroxetine treatment may experience a few, all, or none of the listed side-effects, and most side-effects will disappear or lessen with continued treatment, though some may last throughout the duration. Side effects are also often dose-dependent, with fewer and/or less severe symptoms being reported at lower dosages, and/or more severe symptoms being reported at higher dosages. Increases or changes in dosage may also cause symptoms to reappear or worsen.

You see there is NO certainy to these types of drugs but what i will say is this.... Anti-d's do change peoples lives and let people who are crippled by their anxiety have a productive and happy life.  Allow people to get into therapy and work out their anxiety issues and learn who to control it so that when they do eventually come off the medication they can use everything that is learnt to carry on leading a productive and happy life.

So my advice would be to certainly get yourself into therapy as well, such as CBT whilst on the medication.  the two together will ensure far better success long term.

Yes of course, but i would say this to you, if you have to sit and really give it a good long think as to whether you need it and are having trouble deciding, then chances are at this moment in time you could try other alternatives, such as Therapy or herbal remedies for example. I say this because someone who is having an extremely tough time with anxiety and/or depression will usually know within themselves when they come to the point that they really NEED medication.

What actually drove you to seek out medication at the doctors in the first place?  How are you coping on a daily basis? Is anxiety stopping you from performing tasks or clouding your reality?

Please keep in mind that if one person in a million has a side effect of a particular medication....they have to list it.  I don't know what type of doctor you saw, but I would seek out a psychiatrist as they are more knowlegable when it comes to these types of medications.  The doctor that told you this sounds as if he is not in favor of you taking these types medications and wanted to scare you.  This isn't the way it should have been handled, their job is not to scare us....but help us.  If what he told you was typical of any medication, I'm sure it would be pulled from the market.  Take care.

Hello and welcome!

Can you share with us which meds you were prescribed?  We will be able to shed more light on the situation in that case.

Most likely, your doc was just giving you the very worst case scenario, and while it's hard not to be frightened, those kinds of severe side effects are pretty rare.

Come back and tell us what you're on and we'll ease your mind a bit!

These are very RARE side effects.  All medications have terrible side-effects that happen to a very small percentage of the population.  Most anxiety meds are very safe.  Your doctor wanted to make you aware of the very worst scenario.  Please don't let this discussion keep you from getting the help you need.
