ULTRASOUNDS

So I finally called my clinic today, to schedule my first ultrasound!  (I know, I waited.  Probably too long!)

BALLS!  I can't get in until September 15th!  I will be 10.5 weeks by then!  :(

I hope I can maintain this baby.  It took us 2.5 years to conceive.  I just pray my hormones are doing what they're supposed to, to support this baby!  :)

How many of you have already had ultrasounds!?

How many of you are waiting longer?

I have no idea what all the numbers mean, for those of you who have posted your U/S numbers. I am sure I will when it's my turn!

we went to uc baby ( 3d ultrasound) with my daughter which was for fun and not a medical ultrasound. they gave us a dvd with the session on it as well as a cd with about 50 pictures on it.

My docs/nurses gave me a sheet of paper after my first visit, about what to expect with the ultrasound, how to prepare, etc.  It strictly said NO VIDEO TAPING.

But it sure doesn't hurt to ask!

We go in for ultrasound and NT testing on Oct. 11 and I had a question for you guys.  Have any of you been able to tape your ultrasounds?  When we had our son, we were able to record all of our u/s (even at 8 weeks) on a VHS tape (he is 11 so a long time ago).  I imagine they no longer do VHS, but was wondering if any of you have been able to take a CD or DVD or anything like that.  I didn't even think to ask our OB when we were there.  My husband asked me yesterday.  I can always call I guess, but wanted to see if you guys had an answer first.

I have recently heard, from a good friend of mine that has delivered 5 children at home, naturally, that too many ultrasounds isn't beneficial.  I had never really thought of it until she mentioned it.  She's big on holistic medicine and doing what's best for the parent and child.  I think she's on to something.  I know it's probably really exciting to see your baby on the screen, but if it's not necessary, I would say to pass it up. Here is an interesting article:  http://www.midwiferytoday.com/articles/ultrasoundrodgers.asp very worth the read!

I just had my second u/s today we got to hear the hb this time! The dr said that I could have an appt every 2 weeks if I wanted. I asked him what they would do and he said that they would just do another u/s and make sure that everything is going well.

I agree with you. i think we get obessed with the pregnancy and try to have as many u/s as possible. I had my first at 6w3d, then started having some weird bleeding so I had two at 7w, then two more in the 8w. Thankfully the bleeding stopped but now I won't see my babies until Sep 26! And it's driving me crazy!

I started crying and hubby was hugging me while on the table.  It has been a long road.  Then she let us hear the heartbeat through the ultrasound and I started really crying then.  I told her at least it was good tears this time.  She has been there when they haven't been.

Congats Amber623 - I feel the same way.

I had my first one today!! Hubby went with me and we're just so super stoked! I feel so much more relaxed about it now and way less worried. I thought perhaps those 9 tests I took could be wrong and I was making up the symptoms...good to see it in there!!  It was so exciting! the picture is here.

I had my first u/s today - I'm 7 weeks.  RE told me to set up an appointment with OB in 2 weeks and I told him I already had one for 9/13.  He asked if I wanted to come in again next week and do another one just to make sure everything was progressing well before then.  So we have another one in a week.  It is funny how doctors difffer in their practices regarding U/S.

I don't have an RE and my OB did an early one. I have no clue as to why they wanted to do one so early but they did. Maybe b/c of my history, but I've had no M/C so I don't know.

My OB won't do an u/s until you are 8-10 weeks along.  I think most of us that get them early go to an RE.  Mine with the RE will be at 7 weeks exactly.  They usually don't do them till 6.5 weeks unless they suspect something is wrong.

That's very interesting!  I think us Americans are obsessed with things that may not be necessary, like too many ultrasounds during our pregnancies! I guess my concern is that it took us 2.5 years to get pregnant.  Perhaps I was pregnant in the past, maybe even just chemically for less than a week, and it didn't stick...so part of me worries.  I am also 32.5.....Oh boy!

(When I was 20, I thought for sure I'd have at least 5 kids by the time I was in my 30's!  I sure learned that I have no control over so many aspects of my life, but rather, I have to wait on the Lord and his time table.  We're just so grateful that we're even pregnant!)

Well in Canada we dont get 1 at all unless there is a reason until 17-20 weeks. A few of the reasons are to date if you dont know or if your Dr thinks there may be multiples or if you have had m/c's in the past.
at the 17-20 week scan they measure and tell us the sex if we want to know and they can tell.
I had one today but only to date it, I was bfing right before my bfp so the dr wanted to make sure of my edd. It did change by a week. With my last pregnancy I did not have one until 18 weeks and that was my only medical ultrasound. We went to UC baby for fun after.
Dont worry hon if you have never had issues in the past there is nothing to worry about.
As far as the numbers that many of us have posted I am almost as clueless I think its HCG count, the pregnancy hormone, but someone else may want to explain since I am guessing.
