Diclofenac

Is anyone on Diclofenac?  I am on it for an orthopedic condition and have been on it almost 4 weeks.  It works, but am unsure how long I will be on it.  As short a time as possible, I hope,...but, I was wondering....for those with arthritis (which it usually prescribed for,,).....are you on it daily?  As an ongoing medication?  I hope to go off it to avoid risks with prolonged usage, but up to now...it has not caused me any problems.  I am taking with Prevacid to make sure it doesn;t upset my stomach.

I recently tried "the patch" with a co-pay of $43.00 and returned the whole box so upset because it did not do a thing and actually made the pain worse!!!  AND I had red itching spots along the areas of my ankle that have the most arhtritis pain!!

I used it for 2 days .. changing the patch ev. 12 hrs and I was in more pain vs. not taking any NSAID at all via mouth.  It actually made the pain worse .. worse than not even taking my meds by mouth!

I have been on Mobic for 2yrs 15mg (labs drawn ev. 6 mos and kidney ok) for a severe tibial tendonitis/arthritis of the ankle ... I cannot live w/o the med due to the pain but oftentimes get some GI side effects and also if taken too close to my Synthroid (thyriod issues) I get very tired and/or anxiety ....

As I ramble .. I guess I'm wondering if ANYBODY out there has seen success with this new patch and what you think about it .... Big Zero for me.

Cheryl (Grade III Tibial Tendonits + osteoarthritis ankle (cannot recall the name of the joint) confirmed by MRI/x-rays as a result of congenital flat feet)

my dr prescribed it for me in a patch, but it cost $150.00 for a months supply, and i just can't afford it.  if you have good prescription insurance, you might ask your dr for that.

How do you make it in a cream?

Apparently, there is a gel that is already made up that can be used.  It is called Emulgel. I think I may ask about that at the next doc. appt.

Yes, I do use this medication, however my RA doc has me make it up into a cream and use it topically instead of swallowing them and risking stomach and intestinal damage. Diclofenac is a rather old, but good good antinflamatory NSAID medication that really can ruin your stomach which is why they don't prescribe it much anymore.

I know it may sound strange but it works really well. My husband will rub it in all over my back, arms and legs and within about 15 minutes there is som pretty good pain relief.

I am on other meds for my RA/fibro as well and use the diclofenac cream when I am in a bad flare.
