Is it ok to take acetaminophen every day for years for arthritis pain?

I have very painful arthritic pain in my upper back and neck. I've had this for around 12 years now. For the past 10 years or more, I have been taking arthritis strength acetaminophen . I was Tylenol originally, but switched to the cheaper generics when they became available. For many years I've been taking 2 650 mg tablets twice a day . The instructions say you can take it 3x a day but I take it 2x a day. Can I expect problems from taking acetaminophen for so long daily..every day?

Sorry, it posted to soon.  :(

For your own safety, you should have your Doctor take a blood test to be sure everything is ok, as faylvn suggested that you do.  :). You definitely need to be sure all of your levels are still in the normal range.  Possibly your Doctor could make some suggestions to you for something that wouldn't be so dangerous to your levels.  You might ask him/her if you haven't already, about switching to something, also, that would give you more relief than you are getting now.  I don't know which state you are in, but you might see if he still send you to a PM (Pain Management) Doctor.  It sounds like you might need something stronger since you've been taking this amount for the past 10 to 12 years.  As you know, you definitely will become immune to different medications after awhile.

I wish you the best and again, I'm VERY happy that you have found the Arthritis Community.

First I want to tell you that we're glad you have found us here on the Arthritis Community!  :).

I'm sorry that I'm late answering your question, but I've been recovering from surgery, because of Osteo-arthritis & am not getting things done as quickly as I normally do.  :(.

What you are doing can be very dangerous.  Is it your Doctor that has put you on this regimen kor did you do this yourself?

Be sure your doctor knows what you are taking.  He can do labs work yo be sure it is not affecting your kidneys or liver.  God bless!
