Osteoarthritis and alcohol use

Hey,
My hubby has been diagnosed (with MRI) with severe osteoarthritis is his jaw. My question is.....could excess/regular use of alcohol worsen the symptoms? I am hoping that perhaps a lifestyle change can alleviate some of his issues with OA.
He was on Celebrex for a short period but doctor took him off (as its not great long term) to see how he feels. Any other tips, thoughts or helpful ideas are appreciated.

Thanks!
Calla

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi Calla!
Well, it is always advisable to drink alcohol in moderation. Clenching of jaw and forcefully biting into hard things needs to be avoided. Warm and cool compress on the joint will help reduce the pain and inflammation. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications can be taken. Physiotherapy exercises aimed at strengthening the jaw muscles help. Please discuss with his treating doctors. Take care!

Arthritis is a general medical term used to define an inflammation of the joints. A joint is the bendable area of your body where two bones meet. Often, arthritis involves the breakdown of the cartilage within your joints.
