knee swelling and pain

I've had right knee swelling for 10 months.  Several monthe ago,  I went to see 2 rheumatologist which one doctor said prepateller bursitis and the second doctor ran a HLA-B27 blood test which came back negative.  I finally went to an orthopaedic doctor and he aspirated the fluid in my knee cap which was clear and he gave me a shot of cortizone.  The x-ray was ok.  The following day when I took off the bandages, I've noticed it was still swelling but not as bad.  Today, about a week later, the swelling is worse.  I do have other intermittent joint pain in my other knee, wrist, shoulder, back, several fingers, thigh, calf, and have degenerative disc disease and arthritis.  (Also, ANA was negative about a year and half ago, although, SED Rate and CRP was somewhat elevated at that time.)  Could this be related to arthritis?  Is this normal for my knee joint to refill with fluid so soon?  (Again, the x-ray about a week ago was ok and I'm surely puzzled.)  Lastly, if I have unknown cartilage or tendon problems, would a x-ray have picked up on this?  Thank you, doctor.

Wow, 2 years is a long time to suffer.  Have you been back to the doctor?  If not I think you should go.  This warrants further investigation.

Hello!
I had a MRI done and the doctor told me it was Pes Burisities and fat where I had gained weight. This happend 2 years ago and the swelling is still on both legs, right under the knees. I use to be real active outdoors and worked out 5 days a week, I've stop doing everything and gained 50 lbs. I have to wonder if there is something else wrong. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi, I am not a doctor (you can find the docs on the right hand side of the forums page) but I would like to share a little with you that may help.
X-rays focus on your skeletal system so tendons do not show up in x-rays and cartiledge is not always clear.  MRIs are your best bet for soft tissue readings.
Bursitis is miserable (I get it in my hips) and can cause painful swellings like you are describing and yes, they can refill soon after being drained.
I hope you will contact your doctor and see about getting that drained again.  I hope you get relief soon!
