hi, I am a 25 year old female in rather poor health. I have back problems. compression in the low back and thorasic spinal stenosis in the mid back, I've seen a slew of docs, a pain specailist how doped me up with so much medicine I could not function and one who did nothing execpt tell me, "your fat and your sad get over it and lose half your body wieght and you'll be fine." the only relife I've ever gotten was with narcotic meds, but I don't wish to be one them for ever. Any sugestions?

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

Have you tried seeing a physical therapist?  He/she can help you strengthen the muscles in your back and the rest of your core which can alleviate your back pain.   Of course, losing weight will also help.  As far as the second doctor that you went to "your fat....", I highly recommend that you not go back to him/her.   Good luck and don't give up!

I agree that the doctor this lady went to is hardly the sympathetic type, and he should have taken other treatments into consideration, but what is wrong with telling a patient that being fat is part of the problem? Does this have to do with political correctness? Does sugar-coating the obvious actually help anyone?

Does marijuana help? I have heard it can be used for pain, but have no personal knowledge. I tried it last year for asthma, and it certainly did help. It's worth a try.
