I have asthma and i have been waking up with short of breathe every morning

Hi, I have asthma and its never really troubled me but for the last couple weeks I have started to wake up with a weird feeling on my chest and my breathing starts to get hard until I have taken my inhaler.
Is this common? Do I need to seek medical help or will it just go on its own?
