Montelukast (Singulair) and panic attacks

I took Montelukast (Singulair) for about one month and began having extreme nightmares and panic attacks.  I stopped the montelukast immediately, and the nightmares stopped.  But the panic attacks continue.  I know others have had similar reactions, but I wonder if anyone has found out how to make the effects go away?  I have been off the medication for over 3 months now.

Hi, I am a respiratory therapy student. First some questions; Are you still having problems since it's been a few years since the question was posed? Did you consult your doctor before stopping the medication? Have you started any new medications for your asthma? I would recommend trying some breathing techniques, yoga, or meditation. The effects that cause asthma increase the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response) above normal causing asthma attacks, panic attacks, etc. The practice of one of the three mentioned above helps bring back balance to the autonomic system by relaxing the mind and body.
