Seasonal Asthma?

Hi there,

Wonder if someone could answer a quick question for me. I have had Asthma since about teh age of 13, as I got older I also developed hayfever. Had a few asthma attacks over the years and have been hospitalised about four times since the age of 13. I'm now 35 and without fail for the past three years between July and September I have one single massive asthma attack. Coupled with awful and what I think is hayfever, basically my sinus's just overload and I can't breathe normally and end up in A&E (or the ER for my friends in America). These symtoms only ever manifest between July and September and they are getting worse.

Every Nurse\Dr I have spoken to seems to dimiss it as "just one of theose things" for someone who suffers from Asthma.

So, my questions are;

1) Is there anything I can take to alleviate this happening, rather than being reactive to this happening?
2) Does anyone else here suffer from the same?

For the record I am currently taking the following meds;

1) Ventolin Inhaler.
2) Seratide inhaler
3)Prednisolone 5mg

Any help or insight would be grateful.

Hi I have 2 sons who are on singulair because they have asthma and get bad with colds and worse around allergy season. It is a preventative medicine. I think it helps alot.

My Doctor has placed me on Singular as well and I to just started to use it for preventive treatment during allergy seasons only. I to have landed in the hosptial twice now in the last 3 years. What I have experienced with it so far is good other then I feel pretty tired.. I do take it in the evening but still sluggish throughout the day. I'm hoping I will adjust and lose this effect some day soon.

My Aunt was on inhalers for 3 years daily and her Doctor switched her over to singular a year or two ago and hasn't had a problem with her asthma since.

hi, thanks for the reply. Funnily enough I saw my Dr the other day - more out of frustration with my symptoms than anything else. instead of being packed off with yet another job lot of inhalers, she actaully too the time to listen to what I was saying and mentioned that there is a course of pills that I might be able to take next year that might work for me. I can't remember the exact name - think it was called melonat or somthing similar, but she did say it would certainly be beneficail for me to at least try them.
