PDD-NOS

My 4 year old son was daignosed pdd nos when he was three and he has been in an early intervention program ever since. He has never had a diagnosis from his doctor although he says keep up with what the early intervention is doing for him. His diagnosis came from a group of people who form up this Early Childhood Intervention. I do think there is certain things my son is a little delayed on and he does mimic shows and have some of the behaviors. I also think that I will do whatever it takes to help him become the best he can be with or without a disablity. I do think that there is such a huge spectrum and in my opinion they are very quick to put almost any kid on this spectrum. I guess my question is does he need to have an actual diagnosis from his doctor or should I just keep him in this program that has helped out tremendeously?? Sorry to go on I just want him to be able to ride the normal bus and not get made fum of for things he can't help and he is still young and this has not hapenned yet but I want him to be integrated into "regular" classes and not only have to be in special needs. I am not trying to offend anyone by saying there is anything wrong with special needs.

hi there, i am a single mum dealing with a 4 year old boy who has been recently diagnosed with Autism. it has been suggested that he has PDD but am still not quite sure and i havent come across alot of information about that. The main problem i have with him is behavioure, espectially when i take him to the supermaket. He has started to become extremely violent towards me to the point that 2 nights ago when taking him to the supermarket he had a massive meltdown and i ended up with a black eye and a fat lip. i am worried that he will hurt his 2 year old sister but as yet he mostly aims his frustrations at me.Im not sure how to deal with him when he is like that.

I honestly don't know what type of autism he has the specialist says that it isn't aspergers and that he is high functioning i have an appt today and i will ask the dr about that. He is very hard to handle sometimes as far as his coping skills go when he is mad or frustrated he will hurt himself the drs have also just recently diagnosed him bipolar because of how severe his mood swings are and also his biological father is bipolar and his grandmother on his fathers side so i always knew there was a chance for that with him he is now in a outpatient hospital program he gets picked up everyday from school and goes to willowbrook which is like mental facility and he stays there till 8 and they brings him home so it is a long day for him but they are trying to help him find other ways to handle things so i hope it helps it is for the next 4 weeks he likes it when he is there or atleast they think he does but he doesn't get home till 8:30 so then he has to go to bed and he does not like that i think once he gets use to the routine it will be better my son thrives on routine if you break it then he has a complete meltdown.

we have to be very strong because if you are a mother of this kind of kid,you must be strong and you have to know you are a blessed person because God knows why it is like this. and I always believe there is a reason for this, and I am still hope everything will oneday be fine.
I also have a duaghter 5 years old, she was okay on everything until she ws 2 years old, then I started seeing her running away from the camera when you want to take her phone, which later on I can to realise it is because of the flash light comes out which is the casee until today. you can only take a photo using a cellphone but not any kind of camera. she was okay on every stage, she was very fast milestone, she started also calling da da da,ma ma ma etc. but at the age of 2.3 years old,all those words disappeared and she used to wave to me when I wave for her and tell her bye but all these stoped.we don't have specialist or doctors familiar with autism etc so I google and see she might have have autism or something, I am not sure.she can not concentrate at all exccept while she watching her learning DVD or bbc carton etc.I am just stressed doing alot of training to her as my self, and I have taken her to a normal nursery school she can count and write even up to 100,all the alphabets, blends, some english word like zebra, elephant etc and her name,
she knows the shapes and all the colours and she sha regnize and name them. but the problem she can not initiate to speak. only until you ask her wht is this? then she will answer, what colur it is? she will answer. but she will just pull your hand and put on what she wants, but if you ask her to repeat something she does. I am not sure what I should do. I am very stressed and I can not work.and I now I hate everyone at home because I see they are not helping me to help my daughter.I am the only one helping my daughter. if I don't remember to give her remedies then no one will remember.

my son is 6 and is autistic and he rides a regular bus to school and is even in a regular class he get taken out for speech and occupational therapy and someone comes in to help him if he needs it he started in the early intervention program when he was a little over 2 years old. I am actually pushing to have him put in a more specialized class room he is not doing that well in the regular class he is actually failing almost every subject and the teacher expects him to be able to keep up with the rest of the class and he just can't, but some kids do very well in a mainstreamed class my son just isn't one of them. You will have an IEP meeting and all you really need to do is discuss with the people in the meeting what you want.

When your son enters kindergarten, the school will take over his therapies and most likely have him re-evaluated. Then they will meet with you and decide what sort of classes he should be in, what bus he'll ride and so on. My daughter has Aspergers and she has been mainstreamed with a 1:1 aide since 1st grade. At 13, she has asked that she be allowed to try classes without the aide and so far, so good. I don't think your regular pediatrician would be making an autism diagnosis. Normally, they would refer you to a child psychologist or team of therapists for evaluation.
