I am a 21 yr old female and I am in the autistic spectrum disorder. I am sensitive to lights. I wear my sunglasses outside and inside. For most of my life I feel disoriented all day everyday i feel like im in a dreamlike state like a zombie i don't know if that is from the being sensitive to lighting.. when i wear my sunglasses inside it helps my anxiety somewhat. i am also really sensitive to sunlight. and i have to have gray or black tints of sunglasses. i have to have dark tint. i cant stand the yellow, brown, blue or pink tints sunglasses have they make things look distorted. anyone else have the same problems? if so how do u solve it?

Hi I'm 29 and am also autistic and sensitive to light and really sensitive to sunlight. I have now been diagnosed with irlen syndrome and wear a special pair of tinted glasses. They really help I don't get headaches anymore or migraines and vomiting. Computers also use to give me headaches and hurt my eyes.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. Retinal detachment (this also causes flashes of light), iritis, uveitis, optic neuritis, corneal ulcerations and other afflictions of cornea, and cataracts are a few eye related causes for increased sensitivity to light. It can be due to nervous system disorders like herniation of tonsils or Chiari malformation, meningitis and encephalitis. The latter two you obviously do not have as you do not have any other symptoms. Chiari malformation can be diagnosed by a MRI of the brain. Other than that it can be a symptom of migraine, retinal migraine, ophthalmic migraine, magnesium deficiency, infectious mononucleosis (if you have a recent history of flu like symptoms), chronic fatigue syndrome, hangover, side effects of certain drugs etc.
Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. You need to consult an eye specialist and a neurologist. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
