visual/writing problems

My son has great difficulty writing, and I suspect there could be motor planning, dyspraxia, or even dyslexia involved.  But what I have noticed is that he is writing the mirror image of the letters words and numbers he sees.  IE. if I hold his writing up to a mirror I can read it.  Has anyone else come across this as I am not sure if it is a writing problem or a visual one.

I know my son has visual sensory problems and he is having such difficulties at school.  I would really love to be able to step inside his body for an hour to experience what he experiences.  I am lucky that he is verbal enough to give me quite detailed explanations of what he is experiencing.  But he isn't giving me any clues on this one.  I know that alot of autistic people are good with symmetry.  Maybe he is plugging into this ability which is helping some aspects of literacy/numeracy but is causing the mirror image problem.
