Most connective tissue diseases are associated with the deposition of mucin in the connective tissues, which is a hallmark presentation of Hypothyroidism.
In addition, the removal of cellular debris (dead cells) and the activation of enzymes "responsible" for this task, are some of the functions of thyroid hormones.

Methotrexate is a CHEMOTHERAPY agent!
There's a huge biological trade-off for the possibility of
some symptom relief, by suppressing your immune system while taking this drug.
I'm not in a position to tell you what to do.
This is something you need to decide on your own.
But I can tell you with certainty that methotrexate does absolutely nothing to address the underlying root issues.
Would it not be simpler and safer to address a possible untreated or under-treated case of hypothyroidism, even only as a trial, with natural desiccated thyroid (NDT) ?
Hmm, perhaps, the standard thyroid tests (flawed) may not indicate a thyroid hormone deficiency.
Or maybe the price of NDT is too low and doctors are not "trained" enough to properly diagnose and consequently treat Hypothyroidism with NDT.
The thyroid tests to ask for (and insist) are: Free T3, Free T4 and Reverse T3
This is for information purposes only and not intended as a substitute for medical advice.
Best wishes,
