Dizzy...but not dizzy

Hi there. I have been feeling constantly dizzy for about 4 months now....well when I say dizzy its more a feeling of my brain floating in my head, a feeling of lightheadedness which sometimes makes me feel quite 'spaced out' and like im drunk/drugged (when I havent drunk alcohol or taken any drugs!). Sometimes my eyes feel like they are really fighting to focus, dont get me wrong my vision is fine, it just feels like everything is more of an effort. Sometimes the dizziness is not too bad, and sometimes it gets much worse but there doesnt seem to be any triggers to it.

I have had an MRI which came back normal. My Neurologist has now written me off and is referring me back to my doctor so as he can refer me to a Neurootologist.

I would like to know if anyone has had any similar symptoms and also suggestions of things it could be would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like vertigo to me - you get tired from trying to keep your self balanced and it can also make you nauseas .

I have the exact thing right now and am finding it so hard to describe it to people. I’ve been very dizzy before but this just isn’t the same. It’s like my eyes are slightly high, it’s a feeling that comes from my eyes. I don’t feel like I’m going to fall over but it’s very trippy, my vision is fine but it’s like my brain is processing the space around me ever so slightly off. If that makes sense?!

Well, a couple years late to this post.  I too have this strange feeling.  Stated about eight months ago lasting for about three months, then just went away. Four months later its back. Along with how you all have decsribed it, for me, it feels like Imwearing prescription glasses that are way to strong. Its the hardest thing to describe to someone.  Like most of you, doctors have found nothing. Blood work and MRIs all good.  So frustrating. If anyone ever figures this out, please post it.

I've been battling the same symptoms (dizziness, like my brain is floating, eyes aren't working together/having trouble focusing, spacey, hard time attending, etc) I've had it for four weeks now and it STINKS! My doctor first thought Vertigo so I saw a vestibular therapist who said he didn't think it was vertigo. I had an MRI (normal), optometrist said my eyes looked good and referred me to an ENT.  Neurologist said "migraine aura without headache" but the medication made me more dizzy and gave me headaches so I stopped taking it.  I have an ENT appointment next week and hoping for some answers.  I've done tons of research and found "vestibluar neuritis" which sounds like the symptoms we're feeling.  I had a doctor prescribe me  acyclovir, which has gave me some relief (I actually have good days!) but hasn't taken it away completely (I still have bad days) Basically that medication is supposed to decrease the inflammation in the ear canal so messages from the ear to the brain can get through properly and the dizziness should go away.  Hoping we all get answers and get rid of this awful feeling ASAP!

I also have had this lightheadedness feeling for years. You explained it the best in your post (like my brain floating in my head) I have fibromyalgia and undifferenciated connective tissue disease.  I have trained my dog to be a balance assistance dog and take her everywhere with me because I always feel like this and now I have something to always hold on too:)  Also had a brain MRI(nothing) and a Nuerologist gave me medicine for migraines and has sent me to Physical Therapy they can't figure it out either. But they are trying to help me. I thought it was my inner ear thing but they tell me no.  Sounds from all these posts that it is just another symptom that is unexplainable.  I think in my case it is just a connective tissue or fbromyalgia symptom that I might just have to live with:( My recommendation is a DOG. God Bless

Hi it may sounds funny, but i was reading your post about dizziness, and since it is for 6 years ago, i was wondering if you have found a treatment for it. I have this feeling for 4 months now, and i know it is not physical issue. Please reply to me if you read this message.

thanks,
Iman

Has your dizziness led to anxiety and panic? I have similar symptoms that I have had tests run for, and of course everything came back normal. However the frustration and physical condition that I am in has led to anxiety and panic attacks. The next thing that I am going to do is have my eyes checked extensively. I already wear glasses, which I started wearing after the symptoms started, I just think that after all of the research that I have done that it may have to do with my eyes. The last diagnosis I had was severe dry eye, however I think there is more than that going on. I think I am starting to get more in tune to my symptoms and I truely feel that what I am experiencing as far as feeling spacey, incoherent, unable to comprehend, unable to focus(mentally as well), and pretty much like losing my mind has alot to do with my poor and unstable vision. Do you also feel a fullnes in your ears and head as if you might have an ear disorder? I do plan on detoxing in the near future. I have read that what ever is going on in the body can be flushed out and damaged cells and organs repaired by detoxing in a healthy way. By healthy I mean flushing the body with herbs and replacing old damaged cells with new ones by way of vitamine and mineral supplements and whole fruits and veggies. I am going to give it a try, along with implementing an exercise routine, stress relief meditation, and prayer.

Thank you all for your suggestions and new posts. Just to update you on a new symptom I seem to have developed - a really sharp stabbing pain in my head on the right side, like someone is stabbing a knitting needle into my head from above.....only lasted about 15mins but then later the same evening I had another pain this time on the right side but at the side of my head....this only lasted a few seconds but has happened a few times since....does anyone else get this along with their dizziness?

I've had/have similar symptoms when it came on it lasted for months. On a bad day, it really felt uncomfortable when my head wasn't still. Neurologist thought it was chronic migraine and prescribed prednisone which helped get rid of it.

I have batteled the same symptoms described above for years. Recently I was diagnosed  with metal toxicity from fillings and other. I also have Hypothyroidism. My Doctor links all my symptoms to environmental toxins. She recommended I take all my silver fillings out and go on a seriuos cleanse ( including sauna, colonics, liver cleanse, etc). I was not sure of how seriously to take my Doctor until I picked a copy of "Detoxify or Die" written by Sherry Rodgers, M. D. The book is based on research and data and explains why we all have these symptoms. I recommend it to all of you who are concerned with your health .

I am going to keep up with this post to see if anything gives me ideas.  Occasionally i get a "hung over " type of feeling.  Not terribly dizzy, just not right and the eXACT feeling as if i had a night of heavy drinking (without anything to drink of course)...when it happens it happens for a few days to a week.  I can't imagine it being constant So sorry you have to deal with it  , and hope it gets figured out.

Hi,

I have all of your described symptoms. Was diagnosed with heavy metal toxicity (from my fillings and passed from my mother in utero). Also have a bad candida infection--easy to get, terribly hard to get rid of! This makes me feel drunken/dizzy and also affects my vision. Please search for my other posts on heavy metals and candida to read more!

Just wanted to mention as well, that my husband cannot drive for very long due to this dizziness and feeling drunk, lack of concentration. However, I must also say that he has sleep apnoea which mean he is not getting enough oxygen to his brain. He sleeps with a CPAP machine. That may be one thing to check out.

I feel dizzy on a regular basis myself, but that is from the fibrmyalgia. I also have different bouts of dizziness caused by vertigo and low blood sugar. However, my husband has the exact same symptoms as you. He feels like he is floating, lightheadedness, lack of concentration, drunk, etc.....and all the doctors tell him nothing. He has had blood tests and CT Sans, and all they tell him is that it's either nerves or anxiety. If you find anything that helps, please let me know. Thanks.

Ok, took the Bethahistine for a few days and about half an hour after taking each tablet I felt so much worse, so I have now stopped taking them and am going to phone the doc to tell her.

I am not sure I agree with them giving me random tablets to see if any make me better coz what if whatever they are giving me makes it worse long term? Surely giving me random tablets when they have no idea whats wrong with me isnt the way forward??

Hey,

I have have bouts with nausea and dizziness.  It is worse at times.  I also got the almost drunk feeling with eyes hard to focus.  Had terrible motion sickness.

When I went to Dr. they tested thyroid and TSH was high.  Diagnosed with Hypothyroidism.  I have felt better since I got on meds.

I have been to the doc again today and she is referring me to a top Neurology Hospital in London. She has also put me on Bethahistine and was concerned that the other doctors had not tried me on different tablets before to see if they help and she was really sympathetic to the fact that I hadnt driven since the symptoms started back in May, so I am feeling better that I have found a doc who is listening and who is going to refer me to a specialist hospital and is trying me on some drugs!!!! Yay!!!

Thanks for your post, what you describe is exactly what im feeling too and its constant throughout the day, so I doubt very much its tiredness. I think the docs just like to try and fob us off coz they cant be bothered to investigate it any further. They probably would if we actually passed out, but I never feel like im actually going to pass out, like you say its like our brains (and in my case my eyes) feel like they just give up for a bit! Its so weird to try and describe these feelings/symptoms to my friends and family and because I dont have any visible symptoms I reckon some of them just think I am making it up....do you get that feeling too?

Hi, i've just started to search the web for ideas, as i have been getting the same symptons you described on & off for a while now. Just recently it's become particularly bad- right now i feel as is my head/brain is moving. i remember having similar feelings about 2+ years ago- sitting down trying to work on the computer feeling like i was on a train- the feeling that your head is in motion but not the rest of your body. i've asked several doctors, mostly they put it down to tiredness (although it happens at any time of the day), low blood sugar (even though i now have the symptoms regardless of when/what i've eaten), stress(the general GP response for anything really!), or related it to middle ear infection (been treated, still symptons of dizziness, motion).
i also have feeling that i might be about to faint- last couple of weeks this has been very slight, i kinda feel like my brain is fainting for a split second. Like yourself i'm on no medication & don't take regular supplements- so i figure it must be something i'm lacking.

Another symptom which i havent had before, which started last night is that the room was spinning, really badly, like i was drunk and I felt a bit nauseous. I have the same today but its not as bad - does anyone else get this???

No the light headedness seems to be constant, there dont seem to be any factors which make it better or worse! Although if I am extremely tired it seems to get a bit worse.
I am not on any medication and am taking no supplements.....
