Linkages between Accutane and Sjogren's?

Is anyone aware of  a linkage between isotretonoin (Accutane), used for treating cystic acne, and Sjogren's, which is linked to the epithelial cells?  At 21, when Accutane first appeared, doses were higher than current (I remember my skin bleeding when scratching lightly with a fingernail).  I am now 51, and have had Reynaud's for a number of years, and was just diagnosed with Sjogren's.  Just curious if anyone has seen this?

No, I had not seen this, but I read on it earlier today it and OMG.!
What a nasty drug!!!
Roche has removed this from the US market, after 1000s of lawsuits
in 2009 and has been banned in a number of countries currently.

Excerpt from a 1994 study, which I came across:
Xeroderma, dry eye syndrome, arthralgia, and possible exacerbation of eczema, were considered to be infrequent but probable long-term side-effects"
"The findings of this study indicate that isotretinoin in the treatment of acne is a safe drug, with no serious long-term side-effects."

Really? This study was done at the time when Roche, had issued very few warnings about any long term effects.
No money, would be enough to "buy" scientists today, (after this drug has caused irreversible damage to the health of thousands of patients who took it) who would support such a position in their conclusion of the study.

I cannot tell.whether your Raynaud's and your recent dx of Sjogren's, have anything to do with Accutane use, however it is possible that it was
directly or indirectly a co-factor. Proving it, is another story, though.

If I were you, I would check out any law firms who specialize in lawsuits against Roche, in regards to Accutane.(I don't mean you should pursue this legally, by suggesting this.)
These firms can afford to hire the top medical investigators in order to pursue their clients cases, since some of the amounts awarded are in the tens of millions (individual cases). The information you can get, even from their websites, could be invaluable.

Best wishes,
Niko.

Hi azmaa,
I used accutane about 3 years ago, and I was just recently diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome too.
FYI to all accutane users- big mistake.
