Back pain and assciated problems

Hi I have been disabled through back pain for 14 years (after an accident at work) now and last week i went to see a neurolgist for the first time. After he had run me through all his tests he seems to think that my problems are down to as he put it a software glitch! I walk with the aid of crutches because my left leg loses all sensation and then it's like dragging around a ton weight. My question would be that given all my back problems what does he mean by a software glitch? his he trying to say it's all in my mind?

If you do find out that it is piriformis syndrome (PS), let me know, as I have it too. Hell, I have just looked back at your info and I see that you are British. They will just laugh mate! My neurorsurgeon said in one note that a piriformis syndrome could a reason for my sciatica but in a latter one said as much as it does not even exsist! So the best of luck. I hope your Dr.s are more understanding or at least clued up. I know that physio's and chiro's here are a LOT more clued up on PS and can identify it through manipulation for you. I really would have a few visits to a physio b4 the neurosurgeon or at least read up on PS b4 u go. If your problem is due to an accident (as mine is) your will be posttraumatic piriformis syndrome. I have tons of info on it and PS in general, so if you want to know more message me. The best of luck though. Not that I want you to have it at all, but it is just a relief to get a diagnosis that makes sense. I kept telling them all that it wasn't my back and pointing to the sore bit at the top of my bum, but no one took ANY notice of that and diagnosed degenerative disc disease! ! It's taken me over 2 years to get here. If you tell me the rest of your symptoms I can probably tell u if u have PS or not, I am a bit of an expert now LOL. By the way it is rare and Posttraumatic more rare again. ( I think it is a lot less rare actually than they say,) I just think they are completely ignorant about it, and what's more that is a total travisty! Soap box pushed back under the settee again. sorry for the rant.

Thanks for your reply. As i mentioned to skmedlin27703 i have been checking everything that contains my symptons and i can see a clear winner and that is piriformis syndrome so that is what i will be approaching him with on the next visit.
Yes i have had both CT and MRI scans to show where my problems lie but i was told that although my discs are bulging they are not bulging enough!! I only wish he could experience my problems for just a day and i'm sure that would be more than enough for him to agree to do something and not just fob me off!!

It struck me from the half hearted exam that he meant i was having him on and that the past 14yrs of disablement i have made up which is just ridiculous! I have been checking everything that contains my symptons and i can see a clear winner and that is piriformis syndrome so that is what i will be approaching him with on the next visit.

Is that all he said ? sounds ridiculous ! He needs to explain himself further.Does he mean soft tissue? ? have you had an MRI scan?

That is a strange comment... maybe he means that its a problem with the pathways and signals that go through your body to and from your brain... maybe... that's my guess... but I would ask him to explain himself to make sure I understand what he is trying to say...
