Crackling noise in base of neck/back of skull whenever I turn my head

Well, I've been sick for almost 2 months and was 'diagnosed' as having a respiratory infection that would 'wear off' eventually. My neck tends to be stiff so I stretch it whenever I remember to.

Well two nights ago I was stretching it and it was 'cracking' as it regularly would, I tilted my head to the side and it felt as if it could stretch more and there was sort of a 'barrier' so I pressed my head downward with some pressure and it 'clicked' which isn't unusual when I stretch. BUT right after that I turned my head and I heard a crackling noise emanating from somewhere around the top of my neck and the middle of the back of my skull. It only happens whilst turning my head and it really bothers me. Have I broken/damaged something?

Side notes:

I've did a bit of 'google' research and most things says that it's degenerative, I'm only 17. Before this current illness I was very vibrant and healthy with no complaints at all. I have every reason to believe it was caused by the excessive stretch that I did.

What do you recommend my course of action should be?
