Foot pain related to spine

Hi

So I broke my spine, hips and foot about 5 years ago and have had problems ever since. I didn't go to any of my follow up appointments for about 2 years and have since tried to re-access them. I had an appointment yesterday regarding my foot as I have muscle, bone and joint weakness in it which has never got better. My doctor cheerily told me that I probably have a maximum of 2 more years walking before I won't be able to anymore. He said there is nothing they can to do help with anything. Is this true? I have looked on google and since lots out there to help with muscle weakness and that a good diet should help my bones? He said that physio, diet etc may help slightly, but will not make any noticeable difference. So basically, I just have to sit and wait until my leg collapses.. and then they might be able to help?!?!? I don't know if it's just me being daft, but surely there's something that can be done BEFORE my leg needs amputating?!?!?!?!

Wow!  I'm sorry to read about this situation.  I would agree that there would seem something could be done and things could be improved.  I'm not sure why you didn't go to follow up appointments but hey, it happens.  What could they have done during those appointments that would have stopped this progression?  Your doctor should answer that.  And I most definitely seek a second opinion.  You don't have to settle for that as your only answer.

Have your muscles atrophied? Have you considered also seeing a neurologist? I would aggressively seek help---  another physician to re evaluate, a neurologist, an orthopedist and a physical therapist.
