Intense dull pain in middle of my back (right side)

Hello,

A week ago I was carrying boxes up and down 3 flights of stairs for about an hour straight and my back was really sore while I was doing it, but I persisted.  I woke up the next day with horrible sharp pain in the middle of my back.  I couldn't move literally for hours.  My wife gave me a deep massage and ice, and I was barely able to get up to go to the bathroom.  I went to a chiropractor who adjusted me and said that it sounded like a rib out of place.  He pushed down on that area and heard a lot of cracks and he said I should be 90% better.  I felt a bit better, but the next day woke up and had the same sharp pain.  I went again and he adjusted me again, and I have been icing and doing exercises for the past week, and taking IB Profen.

The pain fortunately has become an intense dull pain in the same area (middle back, just to the right of my spine).  It's hard to get up when I am laying down without really taking my time, and it is impossible to even try a push up now, my arms feel so weak.  I feel so helpless for the past week.  I haven't been in to work and although I don't have the sharp pain I want to be back to normal.

Do you think time and ice/rest will get me better, or should I go in for further tests/treatments?  Anyone know what this could be?  Is it really a rib, or a disk/ligament/muscle tear?  Please help!

You must immediatly seek a doctor and go for further treatment as the cause is still unknown - and never push your self suddenly for something like this - because you are not into athletics or gym schedual that you can up hold sudden changes in wieght lifting - So please you can also do it taking a  rest or so - hope you will get well soon.

I agree with getting the osteopathic physician they are awesome. But you should go to your GP and get some more test ran to determine exactly what is wrong. It sounds like you have a disc that has slipped. They can be very painful for months and can get worse if left untreated. There is a chart on my profile of nerve conduction. Please go look at it and make sure you are not having any of the symptoms. Also watch out for numbness or tingling as that is a sign of a pinched nerve and it can be very serious. Best wishes, Sissie

Andy..i am not a physician, but my husband is an osteopath who treats problems like yours with gentle manipulation.  If you can find an osteopathic physician in your area, you may want to get their advice.  Hope this helps & that you get relief.
