Shoulder pain repeatedly improves after injury

I have had shoulder and upper arm pain on one side since the summer and have been told it's most likely rotator cuff tendonitis, or bursitis. The pain hasn't improved with heat/cold, gentle stretching or time. It does seem to improve when I jar the shoulder; there is immediate acute pain, then I find my range of pain-free movement increases afterwards. Is this normal? I have a bit of residual pain in the back of the shoulder surrounding my armpit and am tempted to jar it to see if this will do the trick.

Sorry you have pain at all.  That can be very confusing especially since you get that burst of improvement after it's been jarred.  That makes me think you may have some type of impingement causing the issue and that temporarily loosens it.  What type of doctor have you seen?  You've been to an orthopedic specialist?  Here is an article that talks about different types of shoulder pain.  https://www.webmd.com/pain-management/why-does-my-shoulder-hurt#1
Physical therapy could be beneficial too for letting you know what is going on within your shoulder area.
